PRAY FOR THE PEACE OF JERUSALEM

FEAST OF SAINT THOMAS THE APOSTLE

Saint Thomas has often been called "doubting Thomas", but it is his very doubts that have opened up the channels of faith for us. We see how patient Jesus was with his doubts, how he allowed him to touch his hands and his side in order to believe. I find this a great source of comfort - we too can take hope in our doubts and unbelief that if we are honest and we present them to God He will give us the proofs we need to strengthen our faith. God does not demand that we be something we are not - profess something we do not believe. He does want our honesty, our openness that if the truth is placed before us we accept it. Judas when confronted with the truth - turned to despair and hung himself. Saint Thomas opened wide his eyes and said, "My Lord and My God!" Peter was rewarded for his strong faith - but it is God's patience with Thomas's lack of it - that shows forth God's tender love and mercy for those of us who have our moments of doubt.

I, Tom, the barber, have little doubt, that, by God's grace and mercy, with feverent prayer in Jesus' name, I will receive restoration and restitution beyond belief.

Help thou my unbelief!

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be our protection against the wickedness and snares of the devil; may God rebuke him, we humbly pray. O Prince of the heavenly host, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan and all the evil spirits who wander through the world for ruin of souls. Amen.
