Come, just as you are to worship!

The people who are the First Presbyterian Church of Aurora, Indiana welcome you to this, the official website of our congregation. We are glad that you have found us and grateful for the opportunity to share a little about ourselves with you. We are a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation and have been worshiping and serving Christ in the Aurora area almost since the founding of the community. Our worship services are inspiring and our fellowship is warm.

We are in mission together with Cincinnati Presbytery and Hopewell Presbyterian Church of Dillsboro, Indiana with whom we enjoy a "yoked" relationship, sharing a pastor for administrative, pastoral, and missional functions. We offer special services throughout the year and the regular observance of the sacraments of the Lord's Supper and Baptism. We are mission focused and believe that God's People are called to some useful purpose both individually and as a community. There is always something here for you to do.

We have opportunities for both adult and youth education, a youth group, a chancel choir, and numerous fellowship activities. We host the offices of the Dearborn County Clearinghouse (a charitable organization providing food, clothing, and financial assistance to those in need) and were instrumental in establishing the Dearborn and Ohio County Chapter of Habitat For Humanity.

We are not like many other clubs, organizations, or institutions which require that you somehow "measure up" to certain standards before you can become a part of the fellowship. We are a Church, and answer to a higher authority than human standards in Jesus Christ. He teaches us to welcome and receive all people as his beloved sisters and brothers. If you are looking for a place of fulfillment, dignity, acceptance, and love - you may have just found what you are looking for. We are not perfect, but we don't expect you to be either. We believe in freedom of conscience in matters of faith and practice and strive to live our lives with the good of others on our hearts and in the work of our hands. Stop in most any Sunday at 10:30 a.m. and learn more!!

ABOUT JESUS

Presbyterians believe Jesus was "Fully human, fully God." Jesus proclaimed the reign of God: preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. Unjustly condemned for blasphemy and sedition, Jesus was crucified, suffering the depths of human pain and giving his life for the sins of the world. God raises Jesus from the dead, vindicating his sinless life, breaking the power of sin and evil, delivering us from the dead to life eternal. (From the Presbyterian Brief Statement of Faith, Lines 8-26)

Jesus was born of a woman - Mary; in a particular place - the Middle East; to a particular people - the Jews. He was born as a helpless infant who hungered, cried, had to be changed and grew as all babies grow. As a grown man, Jesus knew all of the feelings humans know - joy, sadness, discouragement, loneliness, and longing. Yet Jesus also trusted completely in God and was without sin. Jesus' actual ministry on earth was short - approximately three years. Because his teachings challenged powerful religious and government leaders, he was executed as a dangerous and seditious criminal. He died, was buried, and was resurrected by God. For Christians, this resurrection is God's most amazing miracle and proof that Jesus was indeed divine.

We believe that Jesus is as alive today as he was on the first Easter morning and that he is present with us today, even though we cannot see him or physically touch him. We call Jesus "LORD" because he has saved us from the power of death and the power of sin and because, through his sacrifice, we are able to know the fullness of God's love for us.

Christians also believe that Jesus will one day return to the earth to complete the task of creating a world where justice, peace, and love rule and evil is no more. To those who believe in Christ, such an event is seen not with fear but with joyful anticipation. Because Jesus showed that not even death can stop God's purpose and God's activity, we know that we have life and hope forever. (Copyright 2001 by Presbyterian Church (USA). All Rights Reserved.  MEMBERSHIP
As defined by the Session of the Church in harmony with the standards and practices of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) in general and the Book of Order of said denomination in particular: "The congregation shall welcome all persons who respond in trust and obedience to God's grace in Jesus Christ and desire to become part of the membership and ministry of his Church. No person shall be denied membership because of race, ethnic origin, worldly condition, or any other reason not related to profession of faith. Each member must seek the grace of openness in extending the fellowship of Christ to all persons (G-9.0104) Failure to do so constitutes a rejection of Christ himself and causes a scandal to the gospel" (G-5.0103)

Lessons Learned from Noah's Ark

Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah's Ark.
1. Don't miss the boat.
2. Remember we're all in the same boat.
3. Plan ahead. It wasn't raining when Noah built the ark.
4. Stay fit. When you're 600-years-old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
5. Don't listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
6. Build your future on high ground.
7. For safety's sake, travel in pairs.
8. Speed isn't always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
9. When you're stressed, float awhile.
10. Remember the ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
11. No matter the storm, when you're with God, there's always a rainbow waiting.
