Background..
Towards his commitment to the core values of dedicated service to society and community development, Mr Shiv Nadar founded the Shri Sivasubramaniya Nadar Educational and Charitable Trust. A co-founder of the Trust was (Late) Justice Pratap Singh, an eminent judge of the Madras High Court. "I am a product of the educational system and would like to give back my might to it ", says Shiv Nadar , explaining the purpose of the Trust to: "impart sound education, provide opportunities for research, work towards eradication of illiteracy and poverty, and alleviate human suffering". The Trust has for its vision the creation of a center of excellence in education, an "equal opportunity " institution, accessible to all students of merit. The SSN College of Engineering, started by the Trust, is an outcome of this vision.
The Founder
Globally, Mr Shiv Nadar is recognized as a man of vision and enterprise. The HCL group, founded in 1975 as Microcomp, has come a long way from the business of manufacturing and selling calculators to emerging as the largest IT group in the country. Today, the HCL group accounts for an yearly revenue of around US $700 million and has its presence in countries across the five continents. A graduate of electrical engineering from PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore, in Tamil Nadu, India, Shiv Nadar began his career as a systems analyst at Cooper Engineering, Pune. He served as a senior management trainee at DCM, Delhi for a few years, before setting up HCL at a time when India had just two hundred computers. Mr. Shiv Nadar is recognized the world over as one among the few I.T. entrepreneurs who pioneered the vision of a networked world. In 1997, Time magazine, in an article, acknowledged Nadar for that foresight, with the observation, " The world has caught up with Mr. Nadar's vision of a networked future, and the results are shaking up enterprises, economies and governments around the world."
The Mission
The founder, Mr. Shiv Nadar, Chairman - HCL Technologies Ltd., brings with him a wealth of knowledge, experience, and success in the IT sector. It is his avowed mission to create a center of excellence in Information Technology through this institution- SSN College of Engineering.
