SCOUTMASTERS CORNER

WINTER 2008

Congratulations to our new First Class Scouts! Your next rank is Star and you should all have no problem getting this before Summer Camp next summer! Beyond First Class the motivation to continue must come from the Scout, your leaders are here to guide and assist you on the trail to Eagle, NOT do it for you! Look forward to some exciting outings coming up like caving and our backpacking trip to North Manitou in the fall!

"THERE'S ONLY ONE THING WRONG WITH THE BOY SCOUTS...THERE AREN'T ENOUGH OF 'EM."

Welcome!!!

Boy Scout Troop 356 is located in New Haven, Indiana and is chartered through the Anthony Wayne Area Council, Boy Scouts of America by the New Haven American Legion Post 330. Financially, we are self-supported through various fundraising efforts and through the generous donation of American Legion Post 330. We meet at the Legion Post, 330 Entrance Dr. behind the Ford Dealer on Highway 30 in New Haven. During warmer weather, you can find us behind the Legion in the picnic shelter building.

Annual activities include summer camp, a free haunted trail at Moser Park for elementary kids, a Fall High Adventure Trip, Winter caving/spelunking, Canal Days cleanup and ticket booth, and district winter, and spring camporees. The troop also plans a variety of monthly activities througout the year.

The leaders of Troop 356 are committed to provide an excellent program for its members and strongly believe and support the values and ideals of the Boy Scouts of America.

PARENTS-PARENTS-PARENTS!!

Parents often ask "What can I do to help?" Even if you do not have the time to commit, there are many ways in which you can support your son in scouting.

BE A SUPPORTIVE PARENT...

After meetings or events, pick-up your scout on time. Review each weekly meeting with your scout and encourage their enthusiasm. Visit a regular meeting from time to time as an observer, or join in the fun! Discuss your child’s medical, health or behavioural concerns with the leaders. Remind your scouts to use their Scouting promise and law in their daily lives. Attend special programs, camps and banquets with your son. Help your Scouts to complete badges and requirements at home.

For those parents who have a little time to spare; we encourage you to be as active as possible! There are many ways in which you can be a part of your sons advancement through scouting that only requires one hour a week, or one commitment a year!! Parents do not have to be a registered leader, however, the Troop policy is that all registered adults are paid for by the troop. Here are a few opportunities over the next 6 months that you can become involved with...

High Adventure Fundraiser Chair

2009 Summer Camp Coordinator

2009 Canal Days Coordinator

Summer and Fall Cleanup at Moser Coordinator

Fall or Spring Court-of-Honor Coordinator

Popcorn Chairperson

Quartermaster

Camping Chaperone
