SCOUTMASTERS CORNER

AUTUMN 2011

Now that everyone is back to school, we are back to Scouting. We had a great summer camp and a great vacation. We are starting a few changes in our Troop. Mr. John Renner will become our Scoutmaster in January and we have a new Charter Organization. Our new sponsor is the New Haven Conservation Club located on U S 24. We bagan meeting there this month.

Sign up a friend for Scouting. We need the new members to go with our new meeting place. We have a heated cabin, a storeage barn and 30 acres including a pond and a river. Share this great place with a friend.

"THERE'S ONLY ONE THING WRONG WITH THE BOY SCOUTS...THERE AREN'T ENOUGH OF 'EM."

Any unit commissioner can tell you - most problems in a pack, troop, crew, or post are a result of untrained adult volunteers. To help solve this problem the Anthony Wayne Area Council tries to make adult training sessions available as often and in as many locations as possible.

Everyone involved in the scouting program should attend training - it's not just for the top unit leaders. Committee members, Charter Representatives, Assistant Scoutmasters, and even parents are encouraged to attend. All training is offered free of charge! Woodbadge is the only exception.

Remember the most successful units are those with the most trained leaders!!

Boy Scout Volunteer Training:

Step One: Watch the Fast Start training video available from your troop or the council service center.

Step Two: Participate in New Leader Essentials & Leader Specific Training (Leader Basic Training). This is an all day session or two-part session which provides details on operating an effective unit.

Step Three: Attend Advanced Outdoor Camping Skills Training, an overnight campout designed to teach leaders to become great outdoorsmen.

Beyond Basic: Complete Youth Protection training, attend district roundtables and WoodBadge.

All adult leaders should be trained! If you have time to spare on any of these dates please take advantage of them!!
