I was sick to my stomach when I got there at how bad she looked and they had not done anything for her...no meds or food for 18 hours.
She lost all her hair from the shoulders forward.
I took her to my vet and they did surgery on her to remove all the dead skin, which included her ears.
Poor baby, I just know it had to hurt so bad, but she never let on. After a couple of weeks more surgery was needed and I was putting meds on every couple of hours and she was just so good about it. I thought she would not be releasable because of missing 2 fingers on each hand and all her fingernails, but the little stink would climb a 2x4 like a monkey with her hands wrapped around it and small trees she would do the same thing and up she would go. She never gave up when she was trying something new and had the most beautiful nest made with pink tissue, toilet paper and paper towels.
I was still afraid to let her go knowing she could not wrap her hands around a big tree. One day God took a hand in it and blew a panel off the pen she was in and she was gone. I called and cried for a week when all of a sudden she was back. It was like she came home to say look Mom I can do it. She climbed the big trees just like she had nails but using her fingers like a rock climber and she was as fast as any of the squirrels. She stayed for a week coming in the dog door for pecans and then she left again. She wanted to be free so badly that I was very happy for her and have not worried.....much, about her. Here are a couple of pictures of her free.
I think about her all the time and miss her daily, she was into everything and loved to give love nips. LOL When I took her nest down after she had been gone 3 months I just bawled.
