Meet the Team Larry Mutchler: ![]() Larry Mutchler
My name is Larry Mutchler. I am a servant of Christ Jesus and a child of the most high God. I play bass guitar in the choir (praise band) at NECC. My father was a minister when I was young. He later left the ministry and became an architect/builder of churches. That failed and our family fell into divorce. I learned to play the guitar, played 12 years, and then I found the bass guitar, the one instrument that I can truly express my spirit. When I was growing up the churches that I had attended never had a place for me and my bass, so I played in the only places I could, bars, studios, and the like. I also played professionally for 2 years. It started to take a toll on me and my family. I fell into a sinful trap and could not find a way out, that is, until I started to search out God. I put my bass guitar under my bed and it stayed there for 15 years. The only bible I knew was the King James version, tough to understand, but I started reading it anyway. Determined to find what I was all about, I kept on praying, reading and searching. Then one day God sent his spirit and completely grabbed me. It was not a understanding of the universe or anything prolific, but it was a still small voice that simply said “I love you.” Seems simple enough, but let me tell you when God says something it will knock you out. I realized that my talent was needed for the work of Christ Jesus. God put a lot of people in my life to reinforce what I had come to realize. I still read scripture everyday, writing his word on my heart, and to be ready to help bring anyone to his presence. My belief is at the end of it all, By the blood of Christ Jesus, I will play, sing dance in worship forever in his presence. Don Christians: Reggie Van Velse: ![]() Reggie VanVelse
Jim Stine: ![]() Jim Stine
Hi, I am Jim Stine and I play guitar in the praise band.I consider being in the praise band my most important job next to taking care of my family. I often have periods where I do not get to play but for the most part I am there. I consider the praise and worship team to be an entity that bestows on its' members a special calling. To be on the team means that you are in part responsible for ushering in the congregation to the throne room of God. What an awesome honor and privelege to say the least. I play electric guitar most but I will seldom play acoustic as Reggie handles that area really well. I have played with the praise team for a number of years now and I have to tell you that the day Connie Percifield asked me to come play with the band I had felt like someone asked me if I wanted to meet the president! I may not have shown it but I was deeply humbled and excited, in fact I was all warm and toasty inside for a long time. The band already had a guitar player named Jeff Stephenson and he was awesome, but his work took him away for long periods of time. Unfortunately he has been away so long now that I wonder if he is ever coming back, I hope so. Anyway, the very first practice that we had I was scared to death! I had never played with such an extraordinarily talented and gifted bunch of people in all my life. I grew up playing hard rock. And my styles have carried through to this day. I am so much better as a guitarist since I retired from it in '91 and sold my Les Paul to capture the dream of being a daddy. But, I am blessed by the fact that God called me to serve once more in an area I love to do so much. Speaking of being a daddy- I have seven children and a wonderful wife who is a person that completes me. Two of my daughters actually work with the worship team as they run the screens and a/v during the service. My family is awesome and I love them so much. I am a bit of a shy fellow and that tends to have me be seen as unapproachable. I actually am a friendly guy it's just always been my nature to be a bit of a 'piece of furniture' in the room. I actually do love to meet new people and am excited when I see visitors at North Eastwood. Connie Percifield: ![]() Connie Percifield
