(Court Appointed Special Advocates)

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASAs) are volunteers trained to be advocates for children who have been abused and neglected and are under the protection of the juvenile court. They are appointed by the judge to meet regularly with the child, review records, and talk to family members and professionals involved in the child's case. They report information to the judge, make recommendations to promote the child's best interests, and monitor compliance with the court's orders until the child has been placed in a safe, permanent home. There are CASA programs in every state (more than 900 programs nationwide) and 24 programs serving 77 counties in Kansas. Our local program has served over 700 children since 1991 and currently serves approximately 75 children each year.

Send payment to Douglas County CASA or make your reservation and payment online: Click "Donate Now" in the sidebar on the left and choose "Casa4CASA Drawing Party" from the donation options.
During the tour, tickets ($1 donation per ticket) will be available at the Customer Service counter of The Merc and on-site during select hours at the various tour venues. YOU MAY ALSO MAKE ONLINE DONATIONS FOR PLAYHOUSE TICKETS UNTIL JULY 16 (via "Donate Now" in the Links section in the lower left hand corner of this homepage). Online ticket donations will automatically register you for the playhouse drawing. Donations are voluntary.
Drawing Party Highlights
The CASA playhouse winner will be drawn at 9 pm. The Hon. Jean F. Shepherd Volunteer of the Year Awards will be presented at 8 pm. Enjoy Mexican entrees, spirits and also a silent auction!
