The business world continues to assert that attitude impacts productivity and shapes employee and organizational success. Motivation, or lack of, is the employer’s largest concern. Even the most intelligent and competently skilled employee can suffer from a negative attitude and, while often producing at an acceptable rate and quality standard, is unwilling to invest the extra effort and energy necessary for commitment to team or organization goals. How to overcome contagious apathy and poor attitude is the lament of many businesses today. Organizations worldwide want employees who are well educated, technically skilled and emotionally intelligent. Drawing on groundbreaking brain and behavioral research, Dr Daniel Goleman’s reveals life situations when people of high IQ flounder and those of modest IQ do surprisingly well. These factors, which include self-awareness, self-discipline, and empathy, add up to a different way of being smart — “emotional intelligence.” Emotional intelligence is not fixed at birth; it can be nurtured and strengthened throughout life.
