According to California’s Green Valley Recycling, for each 500 books recycled, we save:
The RVH PTO, in conjunction with Craw-Kan Telephone, Co and the SEK Recycling Center, Pittsburg, is sponsoring a phone book recycling competition by class. All phone books, not just Craw-Kan, will be accepted. Craw-Kan Telephone will donate .15˘ per phone book up to a total of $250 to be divided between the top 5 classes to be used for a class pizza party; milk & cookies, etc. Phone books will be counted at the end of each day. Winners will be announced April 30.

* 7,000 gallons of water
* 3.3 cubic yards of landfill space
* 17 to 31 trees
* 4,100 kilowatts of electricity, enough to power an average home for six months
