What is a Fisher House?

Fisher Houses are comfortable homes that serve as a temporary residence near a military or VA medical facility where Family members can eat, sleep, relax and find support from other Families in similar situations. Click here to read about our history.

Who is eligible to stay at the Ft. Campbell Fisher House?

We are here to serve our active duty, veterans, retirees and their Families while actively receiving medical treament at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital (BACH) and other local medical facilities.

How do I make a reservation?

Referrals to the Fisher House are generally done through a case manager, hospital staff, or the soldiers's unit, however, you can call the house manager directly to discuss your situation and to check on room availability. When making referrals, please be aware that we do NOT allow check-ins after regular business hours (M-F 830 - 1630). If you know arrival will take place after hours, weekends or on a holiday, you must pre-arrange check-in with the manager. A referral is not a reservation - please call the day before your expected arrival to make sure we have a room available. Rooms are available on a first-come basis, therefore, we recommend you have a back up plan for your lodging needs. Each patient is limited to one room, and each room has a maximum occupancy of 3 people. When the house is at full-occupancy, we will maintain a waiting list.

If you are making a referral, please visit our Downloads page for a copy of the Referral form.

What does it cost?

As of October 2006, there is no charge to stay at the Fisher House. Through community support, we're able to provide just about everything you may need, including food and beverages.

Are there any rules in place for those staying at the Fisher House?

Yes. Because the house is shared by up to 8 Families, we do have policies in place to ensure everyone has a comfortable stay. Click here. Each room has a binder with complete house guidelines and other important information.

I was told I needed a "Battle Buddy". Why?

Out-patients are NEVER allowed to stay at the Fisher House alone - regardless of their ability to take care of themselves. This policy is in place for the safety and welfare of the patient and can not be waived.

Does the Army provide the funding for Army Fisher Houses?

Yes, to an extent. We fall under Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF), which pays the utilities, the salaries, and the building maintenance. However, it's the charitable donations that make this house a "home", allowing us to provide our guests with food, shampoo, laundry detergent, toys, computers, phone cards, holiday decor, etc...

If I make a donation to a specific Army Fisher House, will the money actually be spent there?

Donations made to a specific Army Fisher House are spent on that house. The money is used to improve the facility, provide amenities for the guests, celebrate holidays, and enhance the range of services provided.

What types of donations are accepted at the Ft. Campbell Fisher House?

Due to limited storage space, we prefer monetary donations (including gift cards to local establishments). This enables us to purchase items as needed and to keep our inventory fresh and new. For health reasons, we can not accept most used items.

You are welcome to contact the house manager to discuss your specific donation.

Items always accepted:

Cash/checks/money orders

Calling cards

Gift cards for Wal-Mart (and other local retailers)

Gift cards for local restaurants

Gift cards for local gas stations

Gift vouchers for PX & Commissary

Visa Gift Cards

New CDs

New release DVDs

Playstation 2 games

Wii games

If I want to make a donation, how do I do it?

There are several options, just pick the one right for you:

The direct approach is best - mail or deliver your donation to us at 652 Joel Dr Ft. Campbell, KY 42223. Checks and money orders are payable to Fort Campbell Fisher House.

You may also use the Online Donation Form. In the Program Area, please select Fisher House at Fort Campbell - KY from the drop-down menu. Donations made online are forwarded to us from the Fisher House Foundation. However, they do not disclose who sent the donation so we are not able to recognize you on our Friends page.

As of 2007, we are participating in the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) - #55546.

There are also web services that allow charity shopping, such as igive.com or benevolink.com, where you shop for yourself and a portion of your purchase is donated to your selected organization. *we do not endorse any specific website, we are just providing information on other ways to donate.

Do you have any volunteer opportunities?

Fisher Houses are blessed with the best volunteers (Angels). For current oppurtunities, check our Team Angel page.

Can I volunteer in the evening or on the weekend?

We try very hard to make sure nothing is scheduled at the house outside of normal working hours. Once office hours are over, the residents have the house to themselves. This is their time to relax, enjoy some quiet time, and be alone with their Families.

Do you allow FRGs (or other groups) to use the house for meetings or coffees?

No! We know that other Fisher Houses allow this type of thing, but here at Fort Campbell we do not. Please understand that the Fisher House is "home" to our residents, and just like most of us, they want nothing more than time to relax and unwind at the end of the day.

Our organization would like to host an event at the Fisher House for the Families. Can we do that?

That depends! There are several factors we have to take into consideration before allowing a group to come into the house. Typically, we do NOT allow events to happen outside of normal business hours (see above). You would need to get approval from the house manager.

Is the Fisher House open to the public?

No, not really! If you or your group would like to visit/tour the Fisher House, please contact the house manager to schedule a time to do so. Tours/visits are only conducted during normal business hours. After normal business hours, only our residents and their invited guests are permitted in the house! Please respect their privacy.

We do have an open door policy (during office hours) for our Wounded Warriors. If you need a quiet place to get away, are looking for some information, or just want to talk, you are welcome to come in and see us.

All visitors need to check-in at the office.

Can I bring my pet(s)?

No. For health reasons, and because we have a communal living arrangement, we can not allow any animals on the Fisher House grounds. If you need to bring your pets with you, please make arrangements with one of the many boarding facilities in the area prior to your arrival. Click here for on-post kennel info.
