Non-H.O.G Events (NH) are events sponsored by a person or groups other than a H.O.G. chapter and are included for your information only. Attend these events at your own risk.

Motorcyclists often slow by downshifting or merely rolling off the throttle, thus not activating your rear brake light. This may cause another driver behind you to not notice you are slowing down. Quickly tapping your hand brake or foot brake sends out a quick messege to the driver behind you that you are slowing down. Also, turn signals on a motorcycle usually are not self-canceling, thus some riders,(especially beginners) sometimes forget to turn them off after a turn or lane change. Make sure you are providing the proper "signal" to the other drivers around you. Moving left when your turn signal indicates right could lead you to pulling into another drivers path. Use your tail lights and turn signals as "riding tools" to help be seen and draw attention.

Motorcycle riders can help promote safer driving laws by being responsible riders and becoming active in organizations like ABATE of Louisiana that promote safe driving laws for motorcyclists.

The next NORTHWEST CHAPTER meeting of ABATE of LOUISIANA INC. will be Tuesday - February 7th 7:00 PM at Cafe USA 3380 Barksdale Blvd Bossier City - 742-9600

Brake Pads. Replacing worn brake pads is the quickest way to get increased braking power out of a tired system. Various manufacturers make all kinds of different types of replacement brake pads for today's motorcycles. Some claim to last longer, while others claim to give more feel and braking power. However, be forewarned that the manufacturer of your motorcycle put a lot of time and effort into developing your braking system, and there is no telling what a different type of pad material might do to your rotors or how well different pads will work with the overall design and setup of your bike. If you have any doubts, then stick with genuine factory parts. If there is less than 1/8 inches of pad thickness left then they should be replaced. Replacing brake pads should only be done by someone with above average maintenance skills.

Chapter News & Notes

"POP" or Purses Of Purpose, is a LOH activity where new or gently-used purses will be collected and donated to women at local rescue missions. "Bags Not Trash Project" is another project involving children who are removed from their homes by the Child Protection Agency. The children’s toys and clothes are placed in trash bags if there is no other way to carry them. We would like for Bossier City HOG and LOH to donate suitcases, duffle bags, totes, etc. to these children. These things don’t have to be new. You can find some good bargains at garage sales. After all, “Anything is better than a trash bag.” Purses of Purpose and Bags Not Trash items can be turned in at chapter meetings, LOH meetings, or business meetings. See "Ladies Of Harley " page for full details and 2012 agenda

Bossier City H.O.G. is pleased to announce that Barbs Sewing will return this year to provide sewing services during our monthly chapter meetings. Barbs Sewing provides patch sewing, alterations, and leather repairs to a variety of clothing. She will be available every other month starting in January, so please plan accordingly. She will be on-site during the January-March-May-July-September-November meetings. You may contact Barb directly by visiting her Facebook Page or calling 318-754-6471

Did You Know the Meet & Eat has been changed from the last Friday of each month, to the last SATURDAY of each month. There are several advantages to this change for the chapter. No more rushing to get to an event after working all day Friday. You have all day Saturday to prepare, travel and eat. We can travel farther away if desired, increasing the number and type of places we can dine at. We can adjust the time depending on what month it is, allowing more people to ride their motorcycles without it getting dark so early, especially in the Winter months. The Meet & Eat can also be a breakfast, lunch or dinner type event. Families are welcome and encouraged to attend
