Scouting reinforces the skills and values we want our sons to learn while at the same time, they are having fun.

Education

Scouting is designed to promote socially acceptable behavior while arming our young men with the skils and knowledge they need to make wise decisions. Scouts, families, and communities are helped through education provided by scouting on:

  • Fighting child abuse and substance abuse
  • Enviormental stewardship
  • Physical and mental health
  • Setting and achievement of goals
  • Citizenship
  • Helping others in need, such as fighting hunger through pack-sponsored efforts

    Leadership Skills

Scouting teaches our young men the skills that help prepare them for a lifetime of ethical leadership.
    Scouting alumni make up:

  • Almost 90% of all senior class and student council presidents
  • More than two-thirds of all rhodes scholars
  • More than two-thirds of military academy graduates

    Values

Research conducted by Louis Harris & Associates found that when a random sample of scouts were asked what scouting had taught them, almost nine of ten responded with the following:

  • Take better care of the enviorment (89%)
  • Get along with others (88%)
  • Always give your best effort (87%)
  • Have confidence in yourself (87%)
  • Set goals for yourself (87%)
  • Care for other people (86%)
  • Treat other people with respect (86%)

In addition, scouts were found to be more likely to:

  • Assume leadership roles in clubs and school organizations
  • Put the needs of others before themselves
  • Make the most ethical, not necessarily easiest decisions
  • Value education and the enviorment

    Scouting is fun!

For Tiger Cubs (boys entering first grade in the Fall), this means participating in activities and outings selected by the Tiger Cub and his adult partner (Akela). Some places visited and activities experienced in the past by our Tiger Cub dens during "go and see it" include:

  • Visit to the Lake Ponchartrain Maritime Museum in Madisonville, LA
  • Tour of Stennis Space Center in Stennis, MS
  • Tour of Madisonville fire department
  • Insti-gator Alligator Farm in Covington, LA
  • Global Nature and Wildlife Center in Robert, LA

Tiger Cubs and their parents also participated at all pack events and won the coveted spirit stick several times!!

Cub Scouts/Webelos (second through fifth grade) participate in both pack-wide activities as well as numberous den-level activities. Typical pack activities during the past several years include:

  • Scouting for food service project
  • Madisonville Elementary deck refurbishment project and butterfly garden.
  • Tree refurbishment project at Pelican Park in Mandeville, LA, Fairview State Park in Madisonville, and Five Lakes campground in Bush
  • Flag placement on graves at both cemetaries in Madisonville for memorial day commemoration
  • Nursing home visits during christmas
  • Pack "adopt a child" during Christmas season
  • USS Kidd overnight trip in Baton Rouge,LA
  • USS Alabama overnight trip in Mobile,AL
  • Blue & Gold banquet
