ATTENTION DEN LEADERS!!! The NEW Cub Scout Program!

What will change?
Sixteen meeting plans will be laid out for den leaders in the new Den & Pack Meeting Resource Guide, organized so that Cub Scouts work together efficiently toward rank achievement. The guide also offers pack meeting plans and den meeting plans for all cub scout ranks. You can find the den meeting plans online at scouting.org/cubscouts.
Scouting magazine that registered adult leaders receive monthly will no longer publish the Program Helps insert.
  • The handbook-based program focuses on den meeting activities that lead to youth advancement.
  • The majority of advancement happens in the den, and the den leader signs the handbook. For in-home advancement, the parent/guardian signs, and then the den leader initials to acknowledge.
  • Den leaders receive specific den meeting plans to ease planning and enhance meeting organization.
  • Wolf/Bear den meeting structure includes seven steps:
    1. Before the Meeting
    2. Gathering
    3. Opening
    4. Business Items
    5. Activities
    6. Closing
    7. After the Meeting
  • Share/discover/search is no longer part of the Tiger Cub den meeting structure.
  • Themes (crafts/seasonally based) will be eliminated.
  • Monthly themes will be replaced by a focus on the 12 core values of Cub Scouting:
    September 2010 - Cooperation
    October 2010 - Responsibility
    November 2010 - Citizenship
    December 2010 - Respect
    January 2011 - Positive Attitude
    February 2011 - Resourcefulness
    March 2011 - Compassion
    April 2011 - Faith
    May 2011 - Health & Fitness
    June 2011 - Perseverance
    July 2011 - Courage
    August 2011 - Honesty
What’s NOT changing?
  • Traditional elements of the Cub Scouting program (purpose, methods, core values, etc.)
  • Rank achievements, badges, beads, and belt loops. The same Cub Scout skill progression prescribed by the Tiger, Bear, Wolf, and Webelos handbooks remains the guiding principle of the program.
  • Pack meeting structure
  • The role of Roundtable in communications and training

Be sure to check out the NEW Den & Pack Meeting Resource Guide online at scouting.org/cubscouts.
