Awards National Summertime Pack Award Summer is approaching fast, so plan now to earn the National Summertime Pack Award. The Cub Scout program is 12 month of fun. If Cub Scoutingis fun during school, just imagine how the fun could be if planned now for summer. Summer is a time when the weather permits or orders life to slow down. While programming does not need to be as extensive as during the school year, it can reap great benefits when activities can be spread out during the dog days of summer. Your pack can qualify for the National Summertime Pack Award by planning and conducting only three pack activities - one each in June, July, and August. Qualifying pack can receive a colorful streamer ribbon award. Boys who participate in all three summer events are eligible to receive the National Summertime Pack Award Pin. Some ideas for summer activities would be day camps - there will be four Cub Scout Day Camp opportunities this summer, baseball games - July 30th is Scout Over-Night with the Shreveport-Bossier Captains, a hike at Walter B Jacobs nature center, Chimp Haven, a tour of the American Rose Center, a day a the lake, a trip to the National Scout Museum in Irving, Tx., atten the Scouting Program Year Kickoff at Sci-Port in August. There are so many options!!! Don't limit your Cub's fun in Scouting to Sept. through May, and better yet, don't lose the mometum of your hard work in Pack programming and retention by allowing the summer to reduce your potential. After a limit in time and a maximum amout of fun during the summer, your Pack will be ready to roll come Sept. Further ideas, info and applications can be obtained online through bsa@scouting.org SO HAVE FUN THIS SUMMER!!!!
13 New Belt Loops Now Available Belt loops are awarded to scouts completing the three belt loop requirements in an academic subject or sport. Academic belt loops are gold, and Sports belt loops are silver, except for the Archery and BB-gun Shooting belt loops, which are brass colored. Belt loops are worn on the Cub Scout belt. Pins are awarded to scouts that continue participating in an academics or sports area and meet the specific requirements for each pin. Pins typically require completion of the corresponding belt loop requirements plus 5 or 6 more challenging requirements. The Academic and Sports letter can be used to display pins on a sweater, jacket, or patch vest. These Academics and Sports pins are NOT attached to the cub scout uniforms. The letter is simply a display device and is not earned. It can be acquired through the local Scout Shop. ![]() |
