Classroom Programs Cultural Arts Program Docent
Program Introduces students
in grades 1-5 to the works of famous artists. Parent volunteers go into their child’s classroom
to talk about an artist’s work and how art is created – and often play games or
make crafts (all of which are provided in advance). In addition, docents bring different grades
to the Every classroom has room for multiple
docents (the more the merrier!). No
specific background is necessary, and the schedule is flexible. All field trips are open for all docents to
participate as guides. If you would like
to present or just help with field trips, please contact Jill Teixeira or Amy Norwell. Everyone is welcome. Step
1: Sign
up as a docent for your child’s class. Step
2: Someone
who has given the unit/gone on the trip in a previous year will present it to
this year’s docents in a short meeting – where you also receive clear guides
with questions (and answers!) for you to use. Step
3: You
join the class and explore the artwork together! This program is sponsored in part by a grant from the What's It Like? Program objectives • Give a sense of what
it might be like to be deaf, blind or physically challenged. • Promote acceptance on social, intellectual and recreational
levels. • Demonstrate through discussion that we are more alike, because
of our feelings. • Assist the non-handicapped,feel
comfortable in their presence and to be respectful and sensitive. • Create a positive attitude toward handicap people. Please contact Beth Mazzocca
if you are interested in helping with this wonderful program. |
