News and Reflections:

The task that remains is to cope with our interdependence-to see ourselves reflected in every other human being, and to respect and honor our differences.

Melba Patillo Beals
*************
How far you go in life depends on your being tender with the young, compassionate with the aged, sympathetic with the striving, and tolerant of the weak and strong. Because some day in life you will have been all of these.

Mrs. Bisson's British and Western Literature classes: A,B,C,F,G

All British Literature classes received their independent novel assignment, Monday, October 19, 2009 in class along with requirements for the research paper and due dates of assignments leading up to the completion of the paper.

Novels should now be purchased. Begin reading and journaling. The first journal of ten entries is due November 20, 2009 and the second of ten entries is due Dec. 18, 2009. Format: Excerpt, page number and significance.

BRING NOVEL and text for Brit. Lit. TO CLASS DAILY.

Wednesday, November 18, 2009, I will collect your "Privacy" essay. Edit and Revise before turning in your paper. You will be given a test grade based upon a five paragraph essay.

5 points for each paragraph: Introduction, 3 body paragraphs and the conclusion.

Also, 5 points for the thesis statement and 5 points for evidence of three transitions connecting the body of the paper.

As studied this past week, agreement is important. You will lose 5 points for each agreement error as well as incorrect usage of the words too, two, to; their, they're, there; and its, it's.

Once again, please proofread, edit and revise. Your "Privacy" essay should be typed, double spaced, 12 font, Times New Roman.

In class you will read an article entitled "Why Study Beowulf." Write four reasons in your "Do Now" notebooks. Keep them up to date for a test grade.

Monday- Friday will be devoted to Beowulf. Bring the text to class. Upon conclusion of the reading/discussion a test will be announced.
