Note –
To make an inference is to read between the lines. What is said helps you to arrive at a conclusion about something.
Evocative phrases – groups of words linked together such as in the creation of a metaphor to help the reader to emotionally experience what the author also experiences.
Setting includes all information regarding time and place.
Resolution is the outcome of the literary piece. How does the main character deal with his challenge?
Review the witches’ séance scene in Act III. How were the witches able to trick Macbeth into thinking he was safe? Provide two specific examples.
To paraphrase means to restate words stated by someone else in your own words. After Macbeth learns that Lady Macbeth has died, paraphrase his response.
Know the difference between pessimistic and optimistic. Which describes Macbeth’s outlook on life and why.
In the “Rime of the Ancient Mariner” be sure you can discuss how this Christian allegory incorporates sin, forgiveness and retribution in its theme.
Denouement or resolution is a term used to describe the outcome of a literary work. Be prepared to discuss the denouement of “The Destructors” in light of the setting of the story.
