Summer 2008 Reading-----Grade 7

Choose one of the books listed below and be certain that you complete an in-depth reading of that text in preparation for a project that will be assigned during the first week of school in September 2008. The completed project will be due on September 16, 2008, and will count as one test grade. You will be able to choose from different projects, and on the day you choose your particular project, you will also receive rubrics that will explain the criteria that will be used to grade your project.

Summer 2008 Reading-----Grade 8

Choose one of the books listed below and be certain that you complete an in-depth reading of that text in preparation for a project that will be assigned during the first week of school in September 2008. Summer 2008 Reading-----Grade 9

All incoming freshmen must choose one of the books listed below and conclude an in-depth reading of that selection. On Tuesday, September 16, 2008, every ninth grader will be expected to complete some type of assessment of the reading of the chosen book.

The procedure will be:
Level 1 and Level 2 students will have to complete a written essay test on their chosen title. These essays will be responses to analytical questions composed by the English Department. Level 3 students, however, will be assigned a project on their first full day of school that will be due on September 16, 2008. Please note that these written essays and the projects will be counted as one test grade for every student. On the first full day of school, students will be presented a set of rubrics explaining the standards by which the essays and projects will be graded.

Summer 2008 Reading-----Grade 10

All incoming sophomores must choose one of the books listed below and conclude an in-depth reading of that selection. On Tuesday, September 16, 2008, every tenth grader will be expected to complete an essay test as an assessment of the reading of his/her chosen book. These essays will be responses to analytical questions composed by the English Department. Please note that these written essays will be counted as one test grade for every student. On the first full day of school, students will be presented a set of rubrics explaining the standards by which the essays will be graded.

These essays will be responses to analytical questions composed by the English Department. Please note that these written essays will be counted as one test grade for every student. On the first full day of school, students will be presented a set of rubrics explaining the standards by which the essays will be graded.

Summer 2008 Reading-----Grade 12

All incoming AP English students should see the AP corner for their reading assignments, and should contact Mrs. Heather Bonczek for the written assignment.

All incoming Level 1 and Level 2 English students must read both books listed and complete an in-depth reading of those selections.

On Tuesday, September 16, 2008, all Level 1 and 2 students will be expected to complete an essay test as an assessment of his/her summer reading work. These essays will be responses to analytical questions composed by the English Department. Please note that these written essays will be counted as one test grade for every student. On the first full day of school, students will be presented a set of rubrics explaining the standards by which the essays will be graded.
