Student Submissions My Ithacan Heaven I'm on a quest for my own unknown goals Passing trails, tribulations, challenges, and tolls. I've not a clue where I'm headed And I don't dare look behind; I just pray that quench for my thirst Is something I will find. May my path be a long one With many twists and turns; May it be the worthwhile experience For which my being yearns. For like golden grains of sand, as the adage states, time passes before the eye, Yet I reach out for the present; at any moment my life may transmogrify. So set rainbows in the azure sky And raise the sun in the east; Make my happiness my everything, My troubles, my least. Many moons will pass And seasons will make their rotation, But let me not bore of this cycle And rather enjoy Your creation. Lather, rinse, repeat, minute, hour, day-- It's a vicious little circle in its own twisted way. Constantly looking forward, over and over again- An inane sort of comfort... My Ithacan Heaven Jessica Kijowski Author's Notes
Jessica Kijowski "My Ithacan Heaven" was written in 2001 for my freshman English class. When I finished reading it in front of everyone, my teacher simply said: "In two years when you start sending in college applications, include a copy of that poem with your entrance essays." When I received the invitation to have my work published in Europe, I was ecstatic, but I didn't know which poem to chose. "My Ithacan Heaven" seems to be the poem people like the most, so here I am writing about it in study hall. I also have had thirteen other poems published and copyrighted in my name at Poetry.com. I would say that my ideas come from some traumatic experience or some other great event, by my only inspiration is living the life of a teenager.
