Holy Name offers a variety of varsity and sub-varsity sports. Athletics serve as a unifying link between academic and social activities. Holy Name provides a program in which all students can find an athletic outlet to actively demonstrate their abilities through direct participation or related activities such as score keeping, managing, time keeping and announcing games. Students who fail two or more subjects in any given marking period, or fail two or more subjects for the year, will be ineligible to participate in any athletic program or extra-curricular activity at Holy Name until the release of grades for the next marking period. Students who fail two or more subjects in the fourth quarter are ineligible to participate in September. Nothing in this rule shall be constructed to contradict in any way the eligibility rules of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association. The girls traveled to Narragansett High on October 31st where they placed 1st and also advanced to the State Regional Tournament which will be held at Shrewsbury High on Sunday, November 15th. The girls hope to advance to the State Finals to be held on Sunday, November 22nd at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston. The girls have worked hard and will continue representing Holy Name with Pride. | Athletes in the Spotlight...
June 13, 2009 - Triple Jumper and 2009 New England Champ, Nadia Eke, Holy Name ‘2011, took the top spot at the 2009 New England Regionals in Vermont with her winning Triple Jump leap of 39”6”, an impressive 2 feet further than the 2nd place finisher!. On June 6th, Nadia took the 2009 State Title with a distance of 39'3" in Fitchburg. Nadia also took the #1 spot at the District E Track Meet in Lunenburg on May 16th with a jump of 38-04-3/4 and broke the MEET record by breaking her own 2008 mark of 37-05. Alumni in the News... SOCCER, 10.21.09 T&G, Rachel Armenti (HN '07) was selected MASCAC Player of the Week, posting two shutouts for Worcester State College. SOFTBALL, 4.15.09 T&G, Mary Moroski (HN'08) was selected Commonwealth Coast Conference Rookie of the Week after posting a .667 batting average and a 1.167 slugging percentage. FIELD HOCKEY, 3.16.09, Washington,DC-Krystyanna Ramsdell (HN '08), a Freshman at Catholic University of America, earned a place on the National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Academic Squad. To achieve this players need a cumulative GPA of 3.30+. The CUA Team received a 2008 National Field Hockey Coaches Association Division III National Team Award. BASKETBALL, 2.25.2009 Sophomore guard Alexis George (HN'07) has been named to the Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Women's Basketball First-Team. The vote was taken by each of the conferences seven head coaches earlier this week. George, is among the conference leaders in a couple of categories. She currently ranks sixth in total scoring (306), seventh in average scoring (12.2) and free throw percentage (.680), 10th in assists per contest (1.52) and 12th in field goal percentage (.373). George also has notched a team leading 39 steals, a squad fourth-best 4.4 rebounds per game with 14 blocked shots. |
