![]() The Mission of the Guidance Department is to focus on both the academic and personal needs of each individual student. Academically, the Department advises students in the selection of courses in preparation for college and professional life. Personally, the Department helps students understand themselves in relation to the world in which they live, to recognize their strengths and weaknesses, and to develop an ability to cope with and solve problems. This may be accomplished in an individual, small group, or class setting. The members of the department recognize that educational, personal, and social components contribute to the development of the whole individual.

Sophomores should also begin exploring personal and professional goals. There are several tools used to help students with this process, such as The Harrington-O'Shea Career Decision-Making System Interest Survey and My Road. The students are also exposed to career information on related websites. Throughout the year guidance appointments are made for each student with Ms. Ivas (A-L) or Mrs. Leahy (M-Z). If further guidance is needed, students are encouraged to make an appointment. Appointments can be made before or after school or during lunch time.
FRESHMEN Freshmen should be working to achieve the highest grades possible. Any student who is having difficulty in any subject should stay after with the teacher. Teachers stay Monday - Thursday from 1:50 - 2:20 p.m. or in some instances later.
In addition students should consider becoming involved in some after school activity whether it be sports, drama, chorus, SADD, yearbook, musical, ski club, etc.
Students will be scheduled for guidance appointments, but are encouraged to make appointments on their own. Any concerns or questions should be directed to Mrs. Leahy.
