Announcements To: My Friends and Colleagues From: Joseph Burke Re: Spring Musical Endeavors This certainly was a most productive year for the many activities associated with the music department. I am very appreciative to all who contributed to the success of our spring concert, especially Mrs. Campbell and Mrs. McLaughlin. We received nothing but rave reviews for our performances. The atmosphere presented in the foyer by our volunteer parents as well as our receptions after the concerts, always serve as a warm welcome to our concert guests. Approximately $1,000 was realized from all of the fundraising efforts at out concerts. Thanks to all who volunteered and participated. This money will be used towards students in financial difficulties for next years music trip. Our Great East Festival proved to be most rewarding as well. The Jazz and the concert bands each received gold ratings. The Concert Band missed a platinum award by 4 points. The Chorus did receive a platinum award, a rare achievement. A special note of accomplishment goes to Ms. Nancy Ackerman as she led the Jazz Band to gold in her first ever H.N. festival. We are also indebted to the valuable assistances of Mrs. Lisa Breeden (H.N. Bookstore manager), She volunteered to order our folders, music books and ties servicing all of those needs and others. Thank you Lisa, for helping make our department run more efficiently and look more professional. |
Last, but by no means least, where would we be without out trusted leaders, Mrs. Booth and Mrs. Moran as they brought us over some 1500 miles on our Pennsylvania trip. A marvelous time was enjoyed by all as we departed from H.N at 5:30 a.m. and traveled to Lancaster (Amish) PA. So much was on our agenda that we (most) all took naps in between. The Amish county, Hershey Park, The Dutch Apple Dinner Theater, Millers Smorgasbord and the city of Philadelphia all served to keep us going on a most delightful three day two night weekend of activity. “Thanks” seems so trite to say to those two hard working ladies who began last June negotiating with hotels, busses, restaurants and the sort to give us such a wonderful tour. Ladies, you’re deserving of all our thanks and praise for presenting us with another tour of such high quality. Thanks goes out to our chaperones as well, who gave up a weekend to make sure all ran smoothly. Plans are already in the works for another Broadway Show in New York City. If the economy doesn’t bounce back soon perhaps a Boston trip might save us some money. Our final concert is scheduled for Thursday June 4th at 7:00 p.m featuring the Intermediate and Jazz bands under the direction of Mrs. Ackerman. Until next year, God Bless, Joseph Burke The music department is in the process of selling a three manual Thomas Organ with a full set of pedals and a Lesley speaker. If you are interested please contact Mr. Burke. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
