The Department's Mission

Welcome to the Foreign Language Department at Holy Name High School!
At Holy Name Junior/Senior High School we believe that competency and proficiency in a modern language is an important part of a good education. In learning a second language and in responding to cultures and values of other peoples, students develop academic and personal skills of importance in their development as responsible citizens of the world. Students learn to appreciate the differences in our world community. We intend that through the study of foreign language, students will experience academic success, value learning and be motivated to continue the study of language.

The Foreign Language Department's objectives reflect the mission of the school in a unique way by inculcating in the students an appreciation and knowledge of other cultures and languages, we help them to welcome all people and to recognize the uniqueness of different cultures. We help them to understand the difficulties inherent in being unable to understand the spoken and written word of another culture. We encourage their acceptance of the differences of other peoples and to view all persons in all cultures as children of God.

Extra Help
Teachers in the Foreign Language Department are available for extra help on a regular basis. Please check with the teacher to find the meeting area.
