Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing once inquired of his audience .. " will you remember me ? " Our answer is hearfelt when we declare, YES !! He loved to respond by saying " sau do la " meaning, " received " or " I've got it ! " Adoring the applause, screams, and the calling of his name; Leslie , as an artiste, entertained his audience with versitility, innovations, colorful arrays of costumes, and beautiful music. He often invited other artistes to come on stage and sing with him, a grand duet .. One such great was Ms. Anita Mui Yim-fong, who also passed away in 2003. Their duets were spectacular ! Leslie never wished to remain stagnent, and sought new, and everchanging expressions of himself, and ultimately, for his fans. Mr. Lok Bing, lyricist, met Leslie at a social function, and engaged him in a brief conversation, coming away with admiration with his personna, and in awe of his candor, and ageless beauty. He commented later, " You died in your films, but lived in our hearts ! " " Though Leslie had left this material world, he is always alive in our hearts -- now -- and forever -- " Our mission may be described in three words .. " Inspire ... Inform ...Involve " To show Leslie's artistic brilliance; to initiate his dreams, and lead a new generation in discovering him, and enlighten those who have no idea of what Depression is, and how it destroys. To gain knowledge is to advance, often slowly, but ignorance leaves us paralyzed and in darkness. As Leslie fans, we wish to express our love and gratitude. This site is dedicated to an artiste very admired; Mr. Leslie Cheung Kwok-wing, from Hong Kong, China, who passed away April 1st, 2003. Tragically, he had suffered from Depression throughout his life; admitting to this in an autobiographical program in 1987. In some situations, one is able to enter remission; but Leslie, and so sadly, went deeper into a depression he never was to recover from, and there were physical conditions also challenging his very outlook. Combined; his depression became worse, and he ended his life, at forty-six years of age. While the world was in chaos, the United States had begun a conflict with Irag; and SARS was progressing to dangerous heights; many who adored Leslie Cheung, also lost him. One may ask .. " why Leslie .. to maintain a legacy " ? Depression has taken so many lives, famous, and non-famous; and several individuals close to this organization suffer from this disease; it has merit, and it's a vision we shall sincerely attempt to complete, and continue. Three important words are involved here, actually six .. but they have a common link. INSPIRE ..we seek to accomplish this via this site INFORM .. to educate the public more in the facts of depression, and suicide, etiology of this mental illness, new treatments and pharmacological breakthroughs, plus current drug interventions, and the latest research being conducted, not only in North America, but internationally. INVOLVE .. Knowledge and understanding, and with these qualities, we are seeking to bring together those suffering from depression, survivors of members who have taken their own lives, and family members who have weathered depression in a loved one, and those who have children suffering from depression. Last, but not least; those who wish to know more, for their own selves, because one never knows ... Ignorance is not a safe haven with depression. We have elderly loved ones who often have a diagnosis of depression, due to many life factors. This is just a brief synopsis; I will share links to depression sites, and add touches that I think will be of use.
