      HOLIDAY TIP FOR PAPERWHITES

If Your Paperwhites Are Ready To Keel Over, It May Be Time To Turn To The Bottle...

It turns out an old home remedy for top-heavy paperwhites -- gin in the water -- will shorten the stems, lower the center of gravity and help keep them in place. Not that these hot-climate daffodils are choosy. Other liquors are just as effective, including white and dark rum, vodka, tequila and whiskey. For the teetotalers out there, rubbing alcohol will do just fine!

Here's the trick... Plant paperwhite bulbs in stone, gravel, etc., as usual. Water in normal for 7-10 days. When the first roots are showing and 2-3-inch shoots are showing, replace the water with the alcohol solution.

      Making The Solution:
1 part Alcohol to 9 parts water = 4% Solution
1 part Alcohol to 7 parts water = 5% Solution
Use this solution for further watering and the result is about a 33% more compact display with just as large, long lasting and fragrant flowers!
