 Course Outline
th Grade: In seventh grade, all students take Pre-algebra. In this class, they learn introductory algebra concepts that they will use in future courses. The also strengthen past skills.
th Grade: In eighth grade, students take Algebra. In this course, they learn basic algebraic concepts, including solving equations and graphing lines. They begin to learn to factor equations.
th Grade: In ninth grade, students are placed into different courses. Some students are placed into Geometry. Other students take Algebra I to build on the skills that they learned in eighth grade. This course is much more detailed and covers more material than the eighth grade algebra course.
th Grade: In tenth grade, students are once again placed into leveled courses. Some students take Algebra II. In this course, students use algebra to solve equations that involve parabolas and cubic equations. They study functions and matrices, and partake in in-depth explorations of quadratic equations. Algebra II also includes a brief introduction to Right Triangle Trigonometry. Other students take Geometry. In this course, students study shapes and their various properties. Students learn to set up and solve equations based on different shapes. There is also an introduction to logic with the study of proofs.
th Grade: In eleventh grade, some students take Pre-Calculus. This course covers rational expressions, logarithms, conic sections, exponential equations, and probability. Other students take Algebra II.
th Grade: In twelfth grade, students have the opportunity to take AP Calculus, a course that will prepare them to take the AP examination in May. Students may also take Calculus, in which they will study limits and derivatives and integrals of curves. Other students take Advanced Math Topics, a project-based course that combines concepts from previous math courses.
