The Morton Seminar Program, founded in 2000, organizes seminars at colleges and universities around North America. Each seminar gathers together faculty from one department or school to read a chosen work on the subject of moral education through biography. The Program has four main purposes:

  • To deepen teachers' knowledge of books that they can incorporate into their teaching and research
  • To extend professors' own moral education and help them become better guides to students
  • To foster community among academicians through serious conversation and conviviality
  • And to refresh participants' experience of the delight of liberal learning

Some past seminar topics include the following:

  • Shakespeare on Courtship
  • Shakespeare and Moliere on Misanthropy
  • Shakespeare on Jealousy
  • Charnwood's Abraham Lincoln
  • Plutarch on Demosthenes and Cicero
  • Plutarch's Antony and Shakespeare's Antony and Cleopatra
