A special thanks to the Marlboro Boosters for inviting us to this really cool event. A great time was had by all.

Direct from ABC-Good Morning America and the New England Sports Network (NESN), the fabulous Harlem Rockets Basketball team is headed this season by two outstanding basketball comedians. Sayeed "Rainbow" Montaqim and Johnny "Magic" Dadzie. The crowd will be glued to their seats when these two super comedians display their basketball razzmatazz and their sidesplitting antics.

Pack 131 wins prestigeous Colgate/Palmolive award for Sweatt Beach Picnic Table Service Project.

In May of 2003, volunteers from Pack 131 met on three separate occasions to perform a major community service project at Sweatt Beach. The project, to refurbish fourteen picnic tables, was discussed when the pack leadership took note of the poor condition of the tables at their annual Sweatt Beach campout. First, the tables were refurbished by replacing all the old damaged wood with new pressure treated lumber. Second, the tables were power washed to prepare them for a fresh new coat of stain. Finally, the parents and boys coated the tables "and themselves" with a fresh coat of stain. A great time was had by all.

The cyclists starting in Wellesley will be going 80 miles to Bourne with their first water stop being in Wrentham. I am the Wrentham water stop coordinator and I would love the help of some local citizens. Let your Cubmaster know if you're interested. It would be an early day as the site needs to be staffed from 6-11 a.m. Before the riders arrive we are busy with set up and preparing food, water and Gatorade. Once the riders arrive we get the riders everything they need and cheer them on. After the last rider is through we clean up the site and go home. Sincerely, Anne Lynch

    Pushmobile Derby, October 18th, 2003

Pack 131 will hold its first ever Pushmobile Derby on October 18th, 2003 from 3-6PM at the Delaney School parking lot. Rain date, October 19th.

Each den has built a Pushmobile and is in the process of decorating it to compete in the event.

On October 5th, dens gathered at the Delaney School parking lot and built their derby cars. Derby car building day was a huge success with the sun shining, the Red Sox hitting and the Patriots scoring.

We hope building and decorating your car will be an adventure you'll always treasure.

    Pack 131 Pushmobile Rules

EACH DEN MUST HAVE A PUSHMOBILE COORDINATOR, PREFERABLY NOT THE DEN LEADER. PLEASE CONTACT THE CUBMASTER TO VOLUNTEER.

A Pushmobile derby is a race using cars built by a Cub Scout Den and their parents. This gives the boys and parents an opportunity to work on a project together, which is important in Scouting. The concept is for a den of boys to build and race the car.

The race is 600 feet long, with the course set up in 200-foot intervals. Two Cub Scouts start-one is the pusher, and one is the driver. When they arrive at the first 200-foot change point, another pusher and driver takes over. They will push 100 feet, turn the car around and push it another 100 feet to the final two boys who will finish the last 200 feet. The first car to cross the finish line is the winner.

The car must be made by the Cub Scout Den and their parents.
Boys will race in heats by Rank level.
All participants must be registered Cub or Tiger Scouts or family siblings.
At the change over line, the change must be completed by the time they reach the second line.
At the turn-around line, the car must have all wheels cross the line.
Cars may be made by any design but remember the above rules

    CONSTRUCTION:
    1. TIRE SIZE: NO TALLER THAN 12"
    2. LENGTH: 60" +OR- 6"
    3. WIDTH: MINUMUM 24" MAXIMUM 36"
    4. BRAKES: Required
    5. CAR MUST BE BUILT WITHOUT THE USE OF NAILS
    6. STEERING: Turning radius must be restricted so the car can be steered safely as not to be a hazard to the driver or other contestants. The car must have a rope devise attached to the forward steering axle in addition to steering with drivers feet.

RACE OFFICALS WILL INSPECT ALL PUSHMOBILES FOR SAFETY PRIOR TO THE RACE

    SAFETY EQUIPMENT:
    1. HELMET (REQUIRED)

Cub World at Camp Norse - July 26th-30th, 2004.
Day 1 - Activities included swimming, paddleboats, fishing, crafts, nature, obstacle course, bb and archery range. Today's quotes "I liked finding tadpoles, salamanders and snakes", "I liked learning to shoot at the range". The weather was perfect, mid 70's, sunshine and best of all - no mosquitos. The camp theme for this week is SURVIVOR. Pack 131 appropriately chose the name BANDALOG which means, The Monkey People.

Day 2 - Today's activities included hanging out at the fort, the range, marbles, ultimate frisbee, marco polo in the pool, fishing, paddle boats and making mud worm pudding. Another beautiful day, mid 70's with lots of sunshine.

Day 3 - Liquid Sunshine threatened the day, however we escaped with only a brief shower. Spirits were high as the boys finished their marbles pin and worked on other loops. The fort was the sight of a memorable battle where the boys had the leaders in their sights. Leather bookmarks were crafted and dorned with beads. The boys finished their tribe flag and learned a great deal about the American flag.

Day 4 - The best day so far, we started with the opening ceremony where pack 131 was honored to be selected to raise the American flag. This was followed up by a scavenger hunt. We then gave thanks to the staff at the fishing, waterfront, pool and range program events. Knowing this would be our last day at these activities made us appreciate them all the more. The boys rehersed their skit and song and are looking forward to family day on Friday.

Day 5 - Our last day in camp was another beautiful one with temps in the high 80's. The morning was filled with field activities including puzzle making, flip toss, home run derby, tug-o-war, fireman relay, fore head relay and ended with the really gross food contest. The families arrived around lunch which was followed by songs and skits. Rupert took the prize for most original Survivor theme costume. The BANGALOG tribe really hammed it up with their song "We are the Bangalogs, Mighty Mighty Monkey Men." We love Camp Norse and can't wait until next year.
