Welcome to Freshman Theology!



Abraham & Isaac

This year we will study the basic tenets of the Catholic Faith and how this faith calls us toward service and commitment in the community.

We will also read and reflect upon the Holy Scriptures of the Old Testament beginning with the Creation stories and following the timeline of God's Chosen people prior to the Common Era.

DON'T FORGET - FRESHMAN REQUIREMENT - SERVICE PROJECT

  • EACH STUDENT MUST PERFORM A TOTAL OF 8 HOURS OF SERVICE FOR THE YEAR.
  • IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THIS BE BROKEN INTO 2 HOUR SEGMENTS PER QUARTER.
  • ALL SERVICE MUST BE DOCUMENTED, A WRITTEN 1 PAGE DESCRIPTION.
  • ALL SERVICE MUST BE WITNESSED(SIGNED) BY AN ADULT OBSERVER/ INSTRUCTOR OR LEADER

WEEK 3 THANKSGIVING WEEK -
Mon: Complete group work on "Perfect Community". Discussion & Reflection:
1. What are some difficulties you have encountered in desigining your "moral society"?
2. Did you find the need to redesign your original 10 laws to account for some events?
3. As a group, were you surprised with responses to various scenarios? Too lenient? Too strict?
4. What is the ideal? To punish or to reform improper behavior?
5. Has this process enlightened your understanding toward the plight of the Israelites as they began to hammer out their new moral and social code to live by?
INDIVIDUAL PROJECT: "A TRIAL IN THE COMMUNITY"
A 3-5 page Typed Dramatization of one of the scenarios outlined in class as it relates to your "fictional" community.
Details & Expectations to be given in class on MONDAY, NOV. 23RD.
DUE DATE: MONDAY NOV. 30.
