How do I sign up for sailing this year?
The Sailing Program signups start in March. To register, go to WWW.SwampscottRec.com (see our links section), create a household account, register for the program, print out a form and mail it in with your check. If you have any questions, call the Recreation office at 781-596-8854.

Youth Sailing is available to children ages 9-16. Each participant must provide proof of ability to swim 100 yards, float three minutes and tread water for three minutes. The program will have three two-week sessions starting July 2. Beginner classes are held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. and intermediate and Racing classes are held from 1-4 p.m.

How do I get the swimming certification?
The YMCA has time scheduled for swimming tests on Thursday afternoons at 4pm. They will have students swim 100 yards, tread water for 3 minutes, and float for 3 minutes. The fee is $3. If you have questions, you can contact Sue Gerton at the Y at 781-631-0870 x13. Other pools may provide certification, as well.

Do I need to provide swimming certification if the student took sailing last year?
No, you do not need to because we should have a record of their certification. If the student took sailing before last year, we may not have a record of that, and we ask that you provide the certificate.

Can I sign up for multiple classes?
Yes!

Will there be classes on rainy days?
Yes. We suggest that the student bring foul weather gear. If conditions are poor, ask about class duration at drop-off time.

Where can I get lifejackets?
There are several places locally to get a life jacket including: Lynn Marine in Marblehead, Nautical Traders in Salem, Ski Market in Danvers, or West Marine in Marblehead or Danvers.
