St Catherine of Genoa Young Adults: Winter/Spring 2007

Most meetings will be held on Wednesday nights at 7:30pm at the Jeanne Jugan Residence (home of the Little Sisters of the Poor), 186 Highland Avenue in Somerville (just one block behind St. Catherine of Genoa parish). 7 Wednesday - St. Francis of Assisi film

We'll watch a film about St. Francis of Assisi. Please bring snacks to share.
18 Sunday - Meeting with Little Brothers of St. Francis
3:00pm at Little Brothers of St. Francis home in Boston
Meeting with the
Little Brothers of St. Francis at their home to learn about the work they do. Please RSVP by February 11.
21 Wednesday - Planning meeting
After 7:00 Ash Wednesday mass at St. Catherine's, around 7:45, at Little Sisters.
We will be discussing the results of the survey and discussing how the group will be run in the upcoming months. It is important that everyone who can make it is there!
25 Sunday - Gospel Brunch
12:00pm - 2:00pm at St. Clement's Eucharistic Shrine, 1105 Boylston Street, Boston
Brunch accompanied by music from the

Eric will give a talk about Lent. What is Lent all about? Why celebrate it? What is the history of Lent? What are the Scriptural principles behind the traditions of Lent? These are some of the fascinating questions we'll explore as we delve into the meaning of this penitential season that prepares us for the glory of Easter. Don't miss this talk that will actually get you excited about Lent.

Rejuvenate your Lent with an hour of prayer and reflection in the Little Sisters' beautiful chapel.
24 Saturday - Soup Kitchen
9:30am - 1:30pm at St.Francis House, 39 Boylston St, Boston (near Boylston T)
Service activity at the soup kitchen at St. Francis House.
31 Saturday - Spring Hike
11:00am at Middlesex Fells
Join us for a hike at the

4 Wednesday - Reflections on Service in Haïti, Solidarity and Culture
7:30 at Little Sisters of the Poor
Ryann will share her experiences with a Haiti Parish Twinning Program. We will explore not only preferential love for the poor though solidarity, but also the great riches that God has given us in Haitian spirituality and culture.
18 Wednesday - Deus Caritas Est
7:30 at Little Sisters of the Poor
Matt will give a presentation on Pope Benedict's first encyclical, Deus Caritas Est, on the meaning of Christian love.
21 Saturday - Clothing Drive
11:00am - noon at St. Catherine's Church parking lot
We'll be collecting clothes in the St. Catherine's parking lot. Afterwards, we'll drive the clothes to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, then get lunch. Come help out if you can, or just drop off some clothes. Contact Andrea at

25 Wednesday - Canned Food Drive

We will be helping the Little Sisters with their canned food drive. This will be a great opportunity to show our appreciation to the sisters. Please note we'll be meeting at 7:00 instead of 7:30.

16 Wednesday - Movie: Inside the Vatican
7:30 at Little Sisters of the Poor
We'll watch the National Geographic documentary Inside the Vatican, which provides a behind-the-scenes look, with unprecedented access, into life inside the Vatican. With rare footage of secret archives, private chapels and papal quarters, the program explores the Vatican's long, powerful history, and the unique traditions and ceremonies that have survived for nearly 2000 years. Accounts from Vatican officiants, historians and devoted individuals who work closely with the Pope John Paul II provide privilieged insight into the inner workings of one of the richest wonders of the world.

10 Sunday - Eucharistic Procession
1:30pm at Little Sisters of the Poor
The Little Sisters of the Poor will be hosting a
Eucharistic Procession in Somerville and they need our help. This is a great opportunity to take part in a unique Catholic tradition as well as help the Little Sisters. We need around a dozen volunteers to help carry candles, etc., as well as to push wheelchairs. We will also invite volunteers from St. Clement's and other Young Adult Groups. The last few years were a huge success with over 200 people in attendance. The procession starts at 1:30PM, but volunteers should arrive at 1:00. 26 Tuesday - Year End Dinner
7:30pm at Tu Y Yo Restaurant, 858 Broadway, Somerville
St. Cat's Young Adults is finishing another year before breaking for the summer. We've decided to celebrate this year by getting together for dinner. We'll be meeting Tuesday, June 26 at 7:30 at Tu Y Yo Mexican Restaurant. The restaurant is located at 858 Broadway in Powderhouse Square in Somerville, just a few minutes walk from Davis Square. Hope to see everyone there!

9 Monday - Suicide Prevention Talk
7:00pm at Little Sisters of the Poor
Kimberly Gleason from
Massachusetts Coalition for Suicide Prevention will give a talk about suicide and what to do if someone you know comes to you with suicidal thoughts.

19 Wednesday - Christmas Caroling
7:00pm at Little Sisters of the Poor
We'll be Christmas caroling for the residents of the Little Sisters' Jeanne Jugan Residence. Come help us share the joy of the Christmas season.
