The 2006 Triathlon Team

We started a new tradition in 2000 at Andover by hosting a Triathlon to benefit “The Ron Howard Fund”. Ron, a Linthicum resident, fell from a ladder and suffered a severe spinal cord injury on November 13th, 1999. The accident resulted in paralysis from the waist down. A fund has been set up to cover the cost of the medical equipment, a wheelchair accessible van and modifications to his home that are needed to accommodate his special needs.

So why not get in shape and help out a worthy cause? The date of the triathlon is Saturday, August 29th (rain date Sunday, August 30th) at 7:00 a.m. Relays will be allowed! We are asking for a registration fee of $40 to participate in this event. Even if part of a relay , each participant would have the entrance fee. This price includes a T-Shirt and a donation to the fund. ($10 to “Andover Recreation, Inc.” and $30 to “The Ron Howard Fund”)

So sign up today and then begin filling out your sponsor form! We will have a prize for the athlete that brings in the most money!<

We are also looking for Sponsors to donate money for Ron! Your information will be listed on the T-shirt. Registration: 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. – Friday night Registration

Race Set-Up : 6:30 - 7:00 a.m. - Please set bikes up on the field next to the Tiger Tank!

Late Registration : 6:45 - 7:10 a.m. Please bring enclosed registration form - one per athlete!

Race Start : 7:10 a.m. for First Heat (20 Minutes & Under Swim)

7:30 a.m. for Second Heat (those over 20 minutes)

7:50 a.m. for Third Heat (if needed)

Course Description:

Swim ˝ mile (32 lengths) in Tiger Tank. (Staggered start times depending on the number of entries!)

Bike down Main Avenue, turn right onto LF/Apache parking lot. Go to the end of the parking lot, bare right and get on the bike/walk path. Go past the horse farm and continue on Andover Road with the middle school on your right. Follow the entire loop around the airport. Turn LEFT after the horse farm up the walk/bike path through LF/Apache grounds. Make a left onto Main Ave. Make a left into the Pool parking lot and deposit bike on the grassy lawn next to the Tiger Tank.

Run down Main Avenue, turn right onto LF/Apache parking lot. Go to the end of the parking lot, bare right and get on the bike/walk path. Go past the horse farm and turn right onto the BWI Bike Trail. Follow the trail until the Elkridge Landing Road. Turn around and follow the same path back to the pool.
