Events and projects are in progress to raise funds to fix the orginal century old slate roof. The history behind the building of this church began with the donaton of land and foundation stones by Thomas Shriver, the Mayor of 1848 and the structure commensed with a congregation of 35 members under the charter as German Evangelical Luthern Church. The designer of the building was Harry Schmenner, a then member of the congregation. The building was completed and dedicated in March of 1850. For more history click on to "some history" on the Home site. The Christian Church, Disciples of Christ congregation purchased the building from St. Lukes Luthern Church in 1942 to carry on the work of the Lord in this structure with a history. The small present congregation strives to keep this church a "church" in worship to God. Anyone wishing to save this historic structure and support this endeavor may do so by contacting the pastor or Mr. Jim Miller, Building Representative through the church office. |
