PTO Meeting Minutes: Wednesday September 14, 2011
Welcome and Introductions
General introductions of all PTO members. Went around the room for parents in attendance to introduce themselves.

Administration: Mrs. Ball and Mr. Clifford
Both Mrs. Ball and Mr. Clifford thanked the PTO for their efforts in the past. School year has started smoothly even with the weather and other natural events.

Treasurers Report and Review of Budget
Wendy reviewed the budget that was distributed at the meeting and a review of the “free money” items (box tops, Giant/Safeway/Target cards). Decisions need to be made as to what to do with the “leftover playground money”. Need to define goals for money brought in this school year.

Mrs. Summers gave an overview of BizTown and JA in a Day.
Short discussion on how JA in a Day went last year and options for doing it again (or not) this year. It was an intense day and difficult to get enough parent volunteers for the older grades.

Budget Requests

Discussion of spirit wear sales options.
Sue D. presented the option of selling spirit wear on line. Could possibly hold an on line sale 2 times each year. There is a set up fee of approx $35-$75 (depending on the company) for each sale. Questions were asked about the difference in the profit that the school would make using the on line option vs. sales at events with items on hand. Discussed possibility of ordering extras during the on line sale period to have to sell at events. Mrs. Ball said that is what her former school did.

Dates for PTO sponsored events, fundraisers, student banking and PTO meetings

Volunteer Sign Up Sheets
Volunteer sign up sheets were handed around the room. Susan N. collected them at the end of the meeting. A volunteer list was sent to the PTO.

Questions and Comments
Melanie Dorsey brought up the possibility of having an FVE PTO facebook page to help distribute PTO information. Pam Watson had brought this up at a PTO meeting last school year. Mrs. Ball said she would find out the “rule” about the PTO having a social networking site. Pam Watson volunteered to create the facebook page.
Mrs. Ball sent out a note saying that CCPS will allow them but they must have a disclaimer on the page saying that it is not an official CCPS site. Pam Watson created the site and added the disclaimer.)

Mrs. Summers provided information about FVE’s Green School status, Waste Free Wednesdays and National Costume Swap Day, and asked about having a table set up at Outdoor Game Night to celebrate Earth Day. Could possibly sell “green products” at the table (reusable lunch skins, grocery store bags).
