MARYLAND's INTERNET NEWSLETTER FOR COWBOY SHOOTERS AND OLD WEST BUFFS.

UPDATES ON November 26th, 2004

There are some changes comin' . The Jefferson Rifle Club is now hosting it's own webpage. This is the outfit that sponsers the JEFFERSON OUTLAWS. After talkin' it over with their new webmaster, I have decided to transfer the "OFFICIAL JEFFERSON OUTLAWS" page to their new site. You will be able to access the page by clicking on the sidebar listing for "JEFFERSON RIFLE CLUB" They are doing some good things and you should be able to get the match scores on time and always. I'll be a regular contributor so in the next day or so the "Unoffical Official Outlaws" page will no longer be availble here at the Campsite.

GOT CABIN FEVER ?

Hey There Pards. . . . . Remember, just don't gander at this here front page when there are 9 more (give or take, on any given day) and you git to 'em by clicking on the page names. (just to the left of what you are reading now)

"Great harm has been done to us. We have suffered great loss. And in our grief and anger we have found our mission and our moment. Freedom and fear are at war. The advance of human freedom, the great achievement of our time, and the great hope of every time, now depends on us. Our nation, this generation, will lift a dark threat of violence from our people and our future, We will rally the world to this cause, by our efforts and by our courage, ... We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail."

President George W. Bush

Address to congress and the nation, September 20, 2001

THE FUTURE OF COWBOY ACTION SHOOTING

(November 2002) Last weekend I shot in the season finale at the Hollidaysburg Sportsman's Club. As usual it was a fine shoot though a little disappointing due to the fact that only 10 shooters braved the morning cold to join the fun. But a special day it was as I found myself shooting next to 10 yr. old Junior Shooter "BULLSEYE BIDDLE" Let me tell you Pards, this little cowboy handles them irons better than some shooters twice his age. And just as safe as thay come! If "BULLSEYE" sticks to this game, you will surely be hearing his name a lot in the years to come. I only wish I would have had the chance to get into CAS at his age. I was proud to shoot with him and hope to see him on the range again next season. It's youngins like him that are the future of CAS. And you know - standing there next to him for the pix it was really hard to believe that there was more than a half a century between us...........Oh well..that's the price we pay to grow up.

Yep, it's finally happened Pards. Mrs. Grizzly has up and flown the coop. She's gone. Told me she was sick and tired these past 6 yrs. of being Mrs Grizzly. She says she doesn't even look like a grizzly. Well she has decided from here on out she wants to have a more "lady like" name, something that more fits her. SO................she has said that if we see that some changes are made, she might just stick around the old campsite. Well Pards..........from this day forward my dear bride will be forever known as:

ADDIE TUDE S.A.S.S. # 43086

WELCOME HOME DARLIN' ! ! !

BOOK REVIEW

In 1997 Gunwriter John Taffin published a book entitled "BIG BORE SIXGUNS" . I Have read this book cover to cover many times over and it is truly a favorite part of my handgunner's library. So it was with great anticipation that I looked forward to the publishing of Taffin's new volume in late '99, "ACTION SHOOTING - COWBOY STYLE". (Krause Publications, $39.95). Its a good looking book but only about 1/4 th of its 320 pages is devoted to the actual sport itself. But then what can you say about the sport of CAS that has not been said many, many times over in the monthly gun magazines. The rest of the book is devoted to the Single Actions and Leverguns (very little about scatterguns) used by cowboy shooters. This is the part of the book when John really shines, because after all he is a "gunwriter" not a "sportswriter". Guns, reloading, sights, smokeless & black powder, its all here. But just when I tell you that there is not much new in the sport part of the book , I'm going to quote you one little "gem" that I found lurking at the end of one of the early chapters.

"The world most of us grow up in is also gone, never to return. Our heros have mostly disappeared with no one to take their places. We can't go back. At least that is what someone once said. That person was wrong. For a few hours next Saturday I will go back. My heros will be alive once again. I will participate in a Cowboy Action Shooting Event."

SCORES FROM THE LOCAL MATCHES
Starting with this shooting season, local match results will be available on the WEB PAGE of the Club hosting the Matches. Just about all of the Clubs now host their own web site. It's not like the old days when we were the only game in town. Links for the various clubs can be found as "Grizzly Links" on the sidebar.

For all you internet cowpolks who complain that all we show here at the campsite are these "Big Ugly Hombres" I thought you might need a "little" somethin' special.

SOOOOOO... here is Grizzly's twin sister "Grizzly Belle" invitin' you'all to give this cowboy shooting a try. Cause it ain't just a man's game........honey !

LOCAL SHOOTERS AT NATIONAL EVENTS - year 2002 AS WE GET THEM
It seems like more and more of our local shooters are hitchin' up the wagons and and heading out to those "Big" matches held around the country. Looks like a real posse is headed out to End of Trail this year and as soon as we find out how they did - we will be a reportin' the news (as always) -

You all will find this on the New 'BIG MATCH PAGE" Just click on the sidebar link.

* * * Opinions & Editorials Galore * * *

(11/29) I never seem to have any trouble running my jaw when I see something I think is bad with the game, so now I'm gonna tell you some things that are right. The last several months (ever since The Damascus Wildlife Rangers began sponsoring Shooters Clinics) there have been a whole herd of tenderfeet on the firing line. And it sure is great to see. Some of these folks are new to CAS and some are new to shooting all together. They are enjoying themselves and we, the "Oldtimers" are enjoying them. Especially great is the number of cowgirls joining in, mostly new shooters. Not picking out our sport in particular but the hunting & shooting sports in general , i believe, will find their future in the girls , just mark my words! Sooooo....a GREAT BIG HOWDY PARDNER to all the new shooters and a tip of the Grizz's ten gallon topper to all those folks that had a hand in the "New Shooters Clinics". I know that CA Shooters are a friendly bunch but; just the same, next time you posse up with a new shooter, do everything you can to make 'em feel right at home.

These are strictly my (Grizzly Joe's) opinions. If you have a different one on this, or another issue, and you want your two cents to be heard - Just E-Mail it along and we'll see about getting you in here at the Campsite.

FOR MORE OPINIONS AND THEN SOME CHECK OUT THE "SADDLEBAGS & BEDROLLS PAGE"

Interested in learning more.... about Cowboy Action Shooting ? Unless you have tried this sport, it is tough describing just what has attracted more than 50,000 shooters to date. The facts surrounding America's fastest growing shooting sport are many. It has been said that cowboy action shooting may well be the most important shooting sport to come along in the last 50 yrs.

As you ponder that statement, just look at the anti-gun sentiments displayed in media and legislature alike. But here we have a recreational, family oriented, and acceptable shooting sport that holds true to American's time honored traditions and values while celebrating the folklore of the Old West. Competing while dressed in the classic cowboy outfit of wide-brimmed stetson, jeans, chaps, boots & spurs seems to bring out the best in folks. Is it fun? You bet it is, because it's really hard to take yourself too seriously all dressed up like that! Want to know more? Just take the links on the sidebar, starting with the link to the Single Action Shooting Society (SASS). Check out all the links then give CAS a try, this may just turn out to be one of the most enjoyable things you ever did!

JUST STARTING IN "CAS" (Cowboy Action Shooting) AND LOOKING FOR AN ALIAS - or - THINKING ABOUT CHANGING THE ONE YOU ALREADY HAVE

Check out the new "alias page" link on the side bar. It will sure make your job a lot easier. We are now fast approching 2005 and there are far more than 50,000 SASS members, and still growing by leaps and bounds. I sure feel for those new shooters who are tryin' to come up with an alias Thanks to CHUCKAROO for sending this along to us.
