The following corrections should be made to your Roster Book:

  • New e-mail address for Ed & Marie Scott: ezms@verizon.net

    BOARD HAPPENINGS

The Club purchased a new deep fryer in time to use it at the July 4 Food Booth. The fryer was purchased 50-50 with the United Methodist Church's Men's Club.

Lion Carolyn Rogers reported that the original LCIF grant that supported the Pre-School Vision Program for the first few years has been used up. The Program needs money from the District's Lions clubs in order to continue. A questioner asked why this was necessary, since the cameras no longer use film and volunteers do all the work.

An invitation to participate in the Faith and Unity Health Care Group's Health Expo at the CSM La Plata Campus on Sat., Aug. 29 received no motion to officially participate. (8/15)

  • Guest Win Barber, who is interested in joining, was introduced and spoke briefly about his background and interest in community service.

  • Treasurer Lion Pat Wathen reminded everyone that their dues for 2009-2010 are now being accepted.

    Committee Reports

  • Lion Mike Merritt reminded everyone that Lions Club License plates are available through him.

  • Lion Marie Scott reported a successful blood drive held on June 29, 2009. 75 units were received from a pool of 90 people.

  • Lion Carl Yorio reported that the July 4th fund raiser is under control, and that the new deep fat fryer has been purchased in conjunction with the United Methodist Men's group from La Plata UMC.

  • The 50-50 winner was Lion Calvin Compton.
    Thursday, July 16, 2009

General meeting was held at Marie's Diner, 6325 Crain Highway, La Plata. Twenty-two members attended.

  • Lion Greg Floberg reported that the Brick Memorial at Lions Camp Merrick has been completed. He also reported that the camp has a new administrator and things are going well. They are currently accepting bids to renovate the craft building, and they have received a grant to install a new septic system.

  • The 50-50 winner was Lion Ell Geib.

    Committee Reports

  • Charles County Fair Gates - Lion Pat Wathen reported we will again man the gates at the Fair Sep. 17-20. He will have a sign-up sheet at the next meeting.

  • July 4 - Lion Pat W. reported net income of $1,888 at the Food Booth.

  • Chicken BBQ - Lion Ed McKenzie said the Club's Chicken BBQ will be held on Saturday, September 26 so it won't conflict with the Charles County Fair.

  • Camp Merrick - Lion Greg Floberg reported the Patriot's Circle around the flagpole is nearly done. The Annual Gala and Idol Contest will be held on Friday, September 18.

    LION'S ROAR NEWSLETTER

I try to put upcoming events in the calendar each month. I try to include everything for the immediate month and as much as I can for the following month. If you want your event listed so members can plan ahead, then you have to let me know the dates. Several times each year, the chair for an event waits too long to get the information into the newsletter, even for the immediate month. Please plan ahead. I need the information shortly after the second meeting of the month in order to ensure getting it into the newsletter.
