An effort to launch a new foster parent organization got off to a quick start on June 18,2005 when about 70 Maryland foster parents and staff met to discuss the needs and potential supports for children in out-of-home placements.

The Foster Parent Summit held at the Maryland Department of Transportation headquarters near BWI Airport brought together foster parents who are dedicated to forming an organization to give them a strong, cohesive voice in affairs affecting the children they serve.

MAKING A DIFFERENCE ONE CHILD AT A TIME

The statewide foster parent association partners with local associations to assist and support foster families affiliated with Social Service Administration (SSA). We support the development of local foster parent associations and coordinate training opportunities and recognition events for our members. We serve as the liaison between local associations and SSA to advocate for the rights and concerns of foster families and assure responsiveness. As a result of our collective efforts, foster families are encouraged, supported, and skilled in providing quality care to children.
