Welcome

Our intent is to let others know what Lions Clubs International is all about and in particular, what our local club is all about. Hopefully, we can attract others that, like us, want to help the less fortunate in our community.

Our motto is "We Serve".

Our mission is to empower volunteers to serve their communities, meet humanitarian needs, encourage peace and promote international understanding through Lions Clubs.

We are citizens from the Northern Calvert County area of Maryland, that want to give back to the community. northern calvert lions club

When and where...

We meet every 1st and 3rd Tuesday of the month at 7:00 PM at Herrington On The Bay at 7149 Lake Shore Dr, in North Beach, Maryland, beside the Marina. But try to arrive at 6:30 to have a little social time.

Our Meetings
We meet in a private dining room at the Herrington On The Bay. We have dinner meetings, both business meetings and program meetings with speakers from the community and Lions organizations. We enjoy the fellowship and the opportunity to make a difference in our community, our country, and the world. Usually, our second meeting of the month is a Program Meeting that features a speaker from the community or the District Cabinet.
  We Welcome Guests
If you're interested in learning more about the Lions or would like to become a Lion, call one of our officers listed on this page. We will invite you to a meeting - and buy your dinner! If you like what you see, fill out an application to join and you will be considered. You will find a Link on this page for an application.

Rain Barrels
"Our club is concerned with our environment and conserving our resources. Rain water harvesting is important because it decreases the high demand for domestic water in which residential irrigation can account for up to 40% of consumption. By collecting rain water and storing it a rain barrel you'll have water for future use, whether it's for watering the garden or just keeping it handy for emergency situations.

We are offering Rain Barrels ready to use including 2 spigots for watering and overflow. Paint and/or decorate as you like. We deliver the barrel for free anywhere in the Northern Calvert/Southern Ann Arundel area. The cost of the barrel is $80. And --- all profits go back to the community!".

Our History

The International Association of Lions Clubs began as the dream of Chicago businessman Melvin Jones. He believed that local business clubs should expand their horizons from purely professional concerns to the betterment of their communities and the world at large. Jones' group, the Business Circle of Chicago, agreed. After contacting similar groups around the United States, an organizational meeting was held on June 7, 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, USA. The new group took the name of one of the invited groups, the "Association of Lions Clubs," and a national convention was held in Dallas, Texas, USA in October of that year. A constitution, by-laws, objects and code of ethics were approved.

In 1925, Helen Keller addressed the Lions international convention in Cedar Point, Ohio, USA. She challenged Lions to become "knights of the blind in the crusade against darkness." From this time, Lions clubs have been actively involved in service to the blind and visually impaired. Today, the Lions Clubs International has grown to include 1.3 million men and women in approximately 45,000 clubs located in 202 countries and geographic areas.

The Twin Beaches Lions Club was chartered on October 8, 1947 with Robert S. Mead serving as it’s first President and Fred J. Donovan serving as Secretary/Treasurer. There were 34 members on the Charter roll. In 1984 the club name was changed to the Northern Calvert Lions Club.

The Lions motto, “We Serve” has always been uppermost in the minds of the Twin Beaches/Northern Calvert club. Locally the club has provided emergency help, scholarships, and important aid to community projects including ball teams, a medical center, Volunteer Fire Departments, Boys and Girls Clubs, and other organizations and causes deemed by the club as worthy of our support.

What are we up to?

We are currently selling our popular rain barrels. Folks are buying our barrels, painting them the color of their siding, and then decorating them with pictures of flowers. We're also preparing for the annual Bayfest on the Boardwalk in North Beach on the 3rd weekend in August. We will be selling beer, pull tabs, and pushing our rain barrels at the festival. We will be set up at the corner of Fifth Street and Bayfront Avenue. Come see us!
