Red Hat Society
The Red Hat Society began as a result of a few women deciding to greet middle age with verve, humor and elan. It was started by Exaulted Queen Mother Sue Ellen Cooper. We join red-gloved hands and go for the gusto together. Those 50 and over must wear purple clothing and a red hat. Those under 50, fondly referred to as Pink Hatters, wear lavender clothing with pink hats. When Pink Hatters turn "50" they have a "Reduation"

Welcome to the Rouge Chapeau Tootsies website       This chapter was founded January 15, 2004. Our Queen Mother turned "50" in 2003. After reading the poem "Warnings" and hearing about the Red Hat Society, she wanted to bring the fun and joy of Red Hat Sisterhood to her family and friends. We are an offical chapter of the Red Hat Society. Our (dis)organization is based in Hampstead, Maryland. Our mottos are "We are always the same age inside!" and "This one's for the girls"

The first outing of the Rouge Chapeau Tootsies was a tea at Gypsy's Tea Room in Westminster, Md. It was a Valentine Tea and benefitted the American Heart Assoc. There were 7 of us in attendance and we had a wonderful time.

WOW!!!!! We have had 4 wonderful years and are looking forward to many more. Our members have changed some and we have lost a few of our friends to other things and added some new friends. Someday soon we will get our picture updated. Along with all the things we did listed in this write up below we also won the first place judge's award which was a plaque in 2005 for the Reisterstown Parade. We did so many wonderful things and have met some wonderful Red Hat Sisters!! We have gone to teas, dinners, Pimlico Race Track, The Maryland Convention in Ocean City, Md. twice, we went to see The Big Purple Undies, Red Hat Day at the Gettysburg Outlets. We had a float in the Reisterstown Festival Parade, we went to New Market to shop and dine and for Chritsmas we made 200 gift bags and distributed them to a nursing home and spent time with their Red Hat Chapter. Hopefully our upcoming year will be just as wonderful and full of fun.

Excerpt from QMB re: Red Hat Core Attendance~

All chapters seem to ebb and flow as ladies exit and new members enter. Not all women are interested in “all” that the RHS has to offer. They see it as going to lunch once a month, and not much more. These ladies soon tire of wearing Red Hats and Purple. What is left are the ladies that enjoy playing dress up and exploring new things.

The RHS is good for women, and ladies will always seek us out. Some will stay and some will go, but with each new lady we meet our lives are richer. We come to accept the fact that not everyone is as interested in the RHS as we are~ that’s okay with us. We see the RHS as a party that we invite other ladies to, and it’s their choice if they want to come and play.

Some ladies may see the RHS as a novelty. We see ourselves as wearing our Red Hats and dressing in Purple when we are 102, still strutting our stuff, and still having fun.

When you put on that Red Hat and Purple so much more is asked of you. You are asked to smile and talk to strangers because they are drawn to us. We don’t just walk into a place, we make an entrance and all eyes are on us. Because we are so visible, we are watched; and yes, judged. Many ladies are not comfortable with being in the spotlight. These ladies will either come to love it or choose to leave. Sort of like a tidal wave, the secret is to ride that wave, and land standing on your feet laughing out loud.

Life is too short to not get out there and enjoy every chance you have to spend with your friends and families.
