Welcome to Susquehanna Search & Rescue, a ministry of Pleasant View Baptist Church
Susquehanna Search & Rescue is a faith-based ground search and rescue team located in the lower Susquehanna Valley. The team specializes in difficult access terrain search and extraction, navigational assistance (all-weather, all-terrain, day and night), and assisting in search planning and communication. The team has a command trailer with a 20' collapsible communication antenna, Vertex VHF hand-held radios, computer w/ mapping/GPS software, printer, copier and laminator for preserving maps in bad weather.
Each member must meet high operational standards before becoming operational. Most members have attained NASAR SARTECH™ II or SARTECH™ III certifications, First Aid or higher medical certifications (e.g., Wilderness EMTCPR/BLS, FEMA EMI Incident Command Systems (ICS), and FEMA Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training. Some have also completed USAF National Search & Rescue School's Inland SAR Planning Course for Search Planners and Managers.

Our mission is to attain the highest levels of proficiency in ground search & rescue while ministering to the physical and spiritual needs of victims and other SAR teams.

About Us
The search team has high standards to be an operational member in good standing, including:
Complete FEMA CERT training
Attain NASAR SARTECH™ III within 1 year of joining
Attain NASAR SARTECH™ II within 1 year of attaining SARTECH™ III
Maintain current certifications in CPR/BLS and First Aid or higher+
Successfully complete a solo day land navigation course over varying terrain
Successfully complete a solo night land navigation course over varying terrain
Demonstrate the ability to tie a variety of knots and anchors pertinent to SAR (in addition to required SARTECH™ II knots) and demonstrate the use of each knot, tying an anchor, use of Prusiks, a basic mechanical advantage with PMP and PCD, tying off to a belay device, and proper belay procedure.
Pass a communications test using radio, UTM grid reader, map, and compass
Successfully complete an orienteering course (terrain association and land navigation)*
Demonstrate the ability to evacuate a 200 lb. patient as a 6-person team across varying terrain a minimum distance of 2 miles while wearing a SARTECH™ II pack*
Successfully complete a timed solo physical agility test with full 24-hr SARTECH™ II pack, a distance of at least 4 miles in less than 40 minutes over varying terrain*
Demonstrate the ability to be a Field Team Leader to effectively lead a team to evacuate an injured subject*
Attend a required number of team trainings and meetings each year
Achieve other certifications/qualifications as specified by the team's officers to supplement and refresh skills demonstrated by standards listed above
*Standards only applicable to SAR team members, not Logistics team members. +SAR Medical team members must maintain BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers or higher and Wilderness First Aid or higher (e.g., Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness EMT, etc.).
