About Mr. Danny Couch Danny States " I was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Charles G. Couch and Margaret Leilani Couch. My father was born in Albany, Georgia, of Scottish-Irish ancestry, and it is from him that I get my love of music. He came to Hawaii during the Korean War and met my mother, who is Hawaiian. It is from my mother that I get my voice. Because my father was in the U.S. Navy, most of the first four years of my life were spent traveling the mainland. Upon returning to Hawaii, we lived in Pearl City for two years. From there, we moved to Nanakuli, the place I call home. My life has been centered around the leeward coast of Oahu: Nanakuli, Maile, Waianae, and Makaha to Makua. My grandparents, The Reverend David Hauoli and Elmira Melemai, spoke only Hawaiian to each other. When they spoke to my siblings and me, they spoke English. I am proud of all aspects of my ancestry, but being born in Hawaii and growing up in Nanakuli has created a special bond with my Hawaiian heritage. I am honored that half the blood which runs through my veins is Hawaiian, for which lineage can be traced to the days of King Kamehameha the Great. My Hawaiian family stretches throughout all these islands. My music is dedicated to my relatives and ancestors, to all the people I've met in my lifetime, and to the place I love the most, Hawaii. Whatever I do is by the Grace of God". In the past few years, Danny (an Independent Artist) has composed and produced songs that have brought him the honor of being presented the coveted "Hawaii Academy of Recording Arts Na Hoku Hano Hano" award on several occasions. The "Hoku" award. In Hawaii, this award is equivalent to the prestigious Mainland Grammy. His current (year 2000) award winning Single of the Year; These Islands a well-written ode to Hawaii, is currently found still at the top of the charts, and among the most requested songs both in the islands and with those island music lovers here on the mainland. His New Cd, "Something to Remember" will undoubtedly add to his collection of awards shortly. The "Hoku" Awards are the end of May this year, since it have been nominated very early in it's release for TWO awards, I am looking forward to being able to state that Danny has added more to his collection!
