Fairwind NOR Ann Arbor Model
Yacht Club Fairwind – 2009
Sailing
Season NOR Preamble The objective of
the 2009 Fairwind sailing season is to make every AAMYC Fairwind sailor
a
better sailor as it relates to yacht set-up, the rules of sailing and
on the
water tactics. 2.
Skippers
shall stay in areas designated for skippers during racing, except when
retrieving a disabled yacht. 3.
Activities
will begin at approximately 12:00 p.m. noon (not before). 4.
The Racing Rules of Sailing 2009-2012
will be observed as printed with exceptions listed in these race
instructions,
amended racing instructions or official notifications at the pond. One amendment shall be –
no part of a boat’s
hull or equipment is to be on the course side of the starting line or
its
extension during the minute before her starting signal.
If a boat breaks this rule and is
identified, a penalty turn including one tack and one gybe, after the race has
started will be
required to be exonerated. 5.
A
fee of $3.00 will be collected from each participant on or before the
first scored
racing on 3 May 2009 -- $5.00 after.
This fee will be used for the purpose of purchasing
trophies and
engraving the winner’s names on existing trophies.
Any excess funds will be turned over to the club treasury
for the
purpose of maintaining the race equipment. 6.
There
will be three series of races for the 2009 season.
A total of four (4) Sundays will be scored races in each
series
the overall seasonal winner. a.
Scored
races will utilize the traditional format.
Each Sunday will consist of six (6) scored races. All races will be twice
around unless wind
conditions dictate otherwise. 7.
Scoring
will be a low point system where the first place finisher of a race
will be
assigned one (1) point, the second place finisher two (2) points, the
third
place finisher three (3) points and so on.
A sailor who shows up to race, but is a DNS, DNF or DSQ
will be awarded
points equal to the number of boats at the pond that day plus one (1)
point. A sailor who
does not show up to race on a
given Sunday will be awarded points for each race equal to the number
of
registered boats that have ever raced during the series plus one (1)
point. This is the
same system that has
been in place at AAMYC. 8.
All
boats racing must be class legal to the most recent Fairwind rules as
propagated by the AMYA. 9.
Guests
are encouraged to participate but while a guest’s finishing positions
will be
recorded, it will not be scored for the day, series or season – in
other words,
the official race results will be as though the guest did not
participate. If a
guest joins the club and pays the race
fee ($5.00 after 3 May 2009) his race results will then be included. 10.
The race management will be handled as
follows: a.
The
first boat to finish will be expected to record the sail numbers of the
race
participants in the order of finish on the proved AAMYC race results
form. b.
There
will be six races per Sunday – therefore six participants will be
selected by
the Fleet Captain, one for each race on a round robin basis, to perform
the
starting duties even though they are also participating in the race. Unless there are fewer
participants than
races, each participant should have to serve as Race Committee for a
maximum of
one race per Sunday. c.
The Race Committee will: i.
Announce
the race number to the fleet ii.
Announce
that the tape (or CD) has been started. iii.
Call
the line at the start – including announcing by sail number any and all
boats
over early. iv.
If
necessary, turn off the tape (or CD) player. v.
The
Race Committee will not be responsible to be involved in any way with
any
disputes that occur on the race course after the start – that will be
here
responsibility of the racers involved and any witnesses to the
situation in
question. vi.
If
the first to finish or the assigned Race Committee fails to fulfill the
assigned duties, he will receive a DNF for the race. 11.
The
Policies and Procedures of the Ann Arbor Model Yacht Club and its
officers are
included in these race instructions by this reference.
The same is true for the general spirit of
racing as propagated by the AMYA. |
