FAIRWIND NATIONALS
Well, the 2010 Fairwind
Nationals is one for the books. We
started with ten sailors, but ended up
with eight. As to weather, it was rain, rain, and more rain. Unfortunately, the wind
did not come with the
rain. When we did
have wind, it was
light and variable at best. We
started
at 10 a.m., broke for lunch, and then finished by 5 p.m. Ten races in all. We averaged 35-40 minutes
for each race. As
we dried out, and wet our whistles, two
points separated first and second place, and a tie for third.
On day two, we got our
wind! But it wasn’t
steady – strong puffs to
none. A lot of lead
changes. But after
we pulled our boats out and ate lunch,
the results came in. Ray
D. was able to
hold on to the lead – Congratulations!
Special
thanks to our race director, Ed Atkinson, and to Jim
Hale, our scorer. We
appreciate their
help in running a class-act National.
Due
to family matters, two of our racers were unable to make
it. Terry Mackey,
and Fred Ferris. This
was the first National that Fred missed since
the inception of Fairwind class. We
hope
to see him next year!
