What is the difference between the BR Skating Academy and the BR Figure Skating Club anyway???

The BR Skating Academy (BRSA) is a group learn-to-skate program. All skaters should begin their skating careers here, whether their plans are to become a figure skater, hockey player, or speed skater. The BRSA utilizes the US Figure Skating's Basic Skills program and is endorsed by USA Hockey. Not only do skaters from the ages 3 years to adult learn how to skate forward and backward, they learn to command their movement while on the ice by using their edges. A strong skating foundation is formed while progressing through the various Basic Skills levels so that once a skater has graduated (completed) the Basic Skills program, they are ready to focus their skating toward any ice skating discipline: figure skating, hockey, speed skating, pairs, ice dance, synchronized skating, etc. The BRSA is organized and functions under the guidance of a Skating Director.

The BR Figure Skating Club (BRFSC) is where skaters learn the "figure skating" part of ice skating. Skating members of the BRFSC can join a synchronized team, learn to become an ice dancer or pairs skater, and of course learn how to do more complex spins, jumps, footwork patterns, and gliding moves. The BRFSC is an Ice Skating Institute (ISI) club and is guided by a volunteer Board.

The regular skating season for both the BRSA and the BRFSC is held September through March, although a spring and summer session are also offered. Members of both the BRSA and the BRFSC may attend skating competitions endorsed by US Figure Skating and the ISI. They may also participate in an annual exhibition held mid-way through the regular skating season and/or ice show held at the end of the regular skating season.
