 Blanket Guidelines
 *** DO ***
Make blankets from new, clean, washable materials in child friendly colors. Remember, these blankets should be cheery, colorful and cuddly.
Make blankets from cotton fabric, flannel, polar fleece or acrylic yarn.
Secure the batting into outer seams and tie (with crochet cotton or yarn) or quilt it every 4 - 6 inches so the batting won't come apart or disintegrate after washing. Cut the ties to 2 inches or less.
When making NO-SEW Fleece blankets, please be sure that your fringe is no longer than 4 inches long and 1 inch wide. Tie fringe with an overhand or balloon knot.
Use small knitting needles or crochet hooks to make preemie or baby afghans. Little fingers and toes can get caught in big stitches.
If you prefer larger needles or hooks, please consider making afghans in larger child or teen sizes.
Weave in all yarn ends on knitted or crocheted afghans
PLEASE CHECK BLANKETS FOR STRAIGHT PINS or switch to safety pins to hold pieces together. It is better that you find the straight pin than the child who receives your blanket.
*** DON'T ***
Make blankets out of tapestry, upholstry fabric, burlap, felt, vinyl, wool, wool yarn or any other scratchy or stiff fabric, yarn or lace.
Don't use buttons or a lot of embellishments or paints on blankets. Embroidery or applique is fine.
