Origins July 4-8 in Columbus
Well people, all I know is that it is getting warm again. The tree care / lawn care business is keeping so busy. I have not had much free time to do anything really. All of the TV shows I tend to watch are now done for the season, so I cannot wait till fall. I have not seen Spider Man 3 as of yet. I heard it was a bit of a disappointment. Too many bad guys in it from what I hear. Now Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, should be a good movie. Lets just hope so anyways. As far as gaming goes, just remember Origins is around the corner. So perhaps we all should figure out who is going to attend, so we can get car pools together. That is all I have for you now.
Happy Gaming
Matt

Vice President’s Column by Bill Korsak
Is that something spooky I hear? What makes Call of Cthulhu Player Characters different from every other types? They learn thought their adventures that they are more and more screwed and yet they still go forward with their goals. I have yet to play in a long term campaign, and I would be willing to help someone run a campaign of this as long as I get a chance to play as well. Mike are you interested? (note: there is a Friday the 13th coming up. - ed) Some of my favorite games of CoC are when I either die, go insane or some combination of both. One GEN-CON game had my history professor simple level his shotgun on a midget bouncer and 'blow him away'. I was certain that he was a the physical manifestation of some kind of demon. Imagine both mine and the Keeper's surprise. Fortunately with the ending of the universe and all things we hold dear I was able to set myself back at the center or it all and recreate it all. Going insane in the process. Ironically megalomania was the end result and it seems perfectly acceptable. So now starts the summer gaming season and we get to play and have fun. So I hope to see folks at the ONE DAY Michicon in Clawson or either of the big cons. Question: what do folks think of starting an overnight con ala 'home' and 'leftover' at the end of June?

Late Breaking News from Bill: there will be a game day on June 30th at Scott Anderson's place on 12 Mile Road. See the writeup for this on the last page.
Upcoming Conventions: MichiCon – June 9th at the Elk's Club on Big Beaver Road between Rochester and John R. This is a very late announcement.
Origins - July 4-8 in Columbus, OH. This is the first major convention of the season. Many GGG members will be there. Note the Wednesday start time.
Gen Con – August 16-19 in Indianapolis. This is the largest RPG convention in the world. Editor’s Column by Mark Rosenberger
Lets start with the programs I used to use to write this newsletter. They are not made anymore and DO NOT work with Windows Vista even when I turn on Windows ME or Windows XP compatibility. That is not the total excuse as to why things are late, however. People have not turned in anything to add in here. Getting contributions is like pulling teeth. (Hmmm, I wonder if that would make a good Cthulhu monster Mike and Bill?) Consider this a work in progress. The program I am using to write this now is OpenOffice Writer, and hopefully it will make compatibility and transferring things to the web page a lot easier. I am still learning how to get this to work, and I know that some of the pictures may look strange as they did not transfer quite as planned. The good thing about this program is that it seems to make more room for things, and the way the costs of copying and mailing have gone up, that is a very good thing! In any case, give me a little slack and some time to get this done right again. One the gaming side, we have a local convention coming up in a hurry. MichiCon will be at the Elk's club on Big Beaver (16 Mile) on June 9th. Because of the short notice, many of us will be at Bruce Miller's oldest daughter's wedding. Stacey is marrying Roy King, another gamer and there are a lot of us who are going to attend that and not MichiCon. Origins is coming in a month! This means that the July Newsletter will either be very early, or very late depending on how things go. Origins also means that there will be no open gaming on July 6th. Other Origins notes: Kirk Rich is still looking for a place to stay at Origins. He is a known snorer, so if you are going and can put up with that, please let Kirk know. I do not know what, if any car pooling there will be. I need to run my first game at 5PM on Friday, so I will be leaving here at about noon. I will be coming home Monday morning. If anyone wants a ride given that schedule, then let me know. Kirk is also willing to car pool as well. There is a pile of new Dragon Storm cards out. Most of them are Wizardry cards and quite interesting. Ice Shield and Ice Bolt seem to be as a direct result of a lot of Game Masters having the Fire Blast start fires (go figure.) Bill has suggested having an all weekend, or sleep over con sometime in June. This is always possible as the beds here are usually made and ready, but a little more planning is necessary and that might push the date into August or September. Kirk brought a copy of Redneck Life over for people to play a couple of weeks ago. This game was a blast. It is a total take off of the old MB game of Life, but with huge amounts of humor added. Everything from having a house full of “Darrels” to taking yer “ride” to the demolition derby. I will not spoil the rest of it for people, but try it sometime. I attended the Motor City Comic Convention last weekend. I ran the only RPG game of the convention when I did a Dragon Storm game. Paul Moon and Bill Korsak were the only other GGG members I saw there, though many of the DS gamers I ran for are planning on joining. Overall, the convention was extremely noisy to the point that my ears hurt as competing “boom boxers” kept turning up the volume to drown each other out. At two points I had to ask people to keep it to a level where normal humans could hear each other (and buy things from the vendors in the area) without having to use a megaphone or sign language. Besides that, the con was very large. I did not buy anything, and I could not eat any of the food they provided in there as everything had cheese all over it including the salads. Good thing I had my usual “Mark Bars” on me or I would have starved. I got a very nice E-mail and request from the StarCon people. See page 3 for more details.
Anyway, game on crew!

This is a note which I got from the StarCon 2008 people:
Hello, Thank you for helping us with StarCon in the past. We were wondering if you would be willing to run an event for StarCon '08 on March 8th of 2008. During StarCon '06 you ran Justice, Inc. for us. Please send us an e-mail back. Even if you decide not to run anything for this con, hopefully you will register to show up to this years con.
Thank you from all of the Starcon '08 staff http://groups.yahoo.com/group/TheGuildOU/ http://www.oakland.edu/org/theguild
This is a local convention and any help people want to give is appreciated. I wrote them back for a little more information and got this:
We
are going to have rooms from 10 am to 12 midnight, so that is three 4
hour While I admit that this is taking pre-planning to an extreme that I would have never dreamed of, I must give them a whole lot of credit for any planning at all. I plan on supporting them again and I hope that many of you will as well.
Recent Games:
A couple of pictures from a recent Justice Inc game. The first shows the peaceful outside while the second shows the gathering crowd in the barn right before the shooting started. At 3 players vs about 30 mobsters, cultists and dirty cops, it was almost a fair fight. Needed a few more cultists to make it fair. Of course, the appearance of the multi-legged demon and the were-wolf did not help the situation.
Late Breaking News!!
There will be a Game Day at Scott Anderson's place on Saturday, June 30th. All are welcome, but please let either Scott or Bill know you are planning on attending. Scott can be reached at (248) 545-3705 and Bill is at (248) 990-4192. Parking can be an issue there, but there is parking available on Vincetta which is ½ a block west of Scott's place. Gaming will be from 6PM till Midnight or so. Bring something you want to play. The food situation is this: meat will be provided, bring a dish to pass if you can, and bring your own drinks. |
