The state MMAP (Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program) website: www.medicare.gov or follow link at bottom of page. The Burnside Center has a Medicare Office to assist seniors with Medicare concerns. Call 517-278-0285 or 800-803-7174 for an appointment or to leave message

The state MICAFE (Michigan's Coordinated Access to Food for the Elderly) website: www.MiCAFEonline.org or follow link at bottom of page or call 1-877-664-2233 to find a site near you. A senior who is age 60 or older on a limited income may be eligible for the Michigan Bridge Card. The Bridge Card is money to buy food. Benefits range from $10 - $140 a month. The average monthly benefit is $60 a month. Call the Burnside Center at 517-279-6565 to make an appointment with a MICAFE Counselor.

Branch County offers to its aging population a Home Care Assistance Program through the H. & C. Burnside Senior Center (Branch County Commission on Aging). The program is for seniors to maintain their independence by providing aides to assist them with activities of daily living that have become too difficult for them to perform.

Eligibility for the program include:

    Resident of Branch County
    Live alone or caring for an invalid
    Physically unable to perform own tasks
    Sixty (60) years of age
Upon applying for the program an assessment of the client is completed by the Registered Nurse Coordinator of the program. This assessment will determine the eligibility and level of assistance needed.

Types of service provided: Light housekeeping, laundry, personal care (bathing, hair care), grocery shopping, and doctor appointments.

RESPITE
H. & C. Burnside Senior Center (Branch County Commission on Aging )provides a service to relieve caregivers for a few hours to attend to other responsibilities when a senior needs continual supervision and care.

Funding the program is done with Federal, State, Millage and donated dollars. A donation is requested, but not required.

CHORE SERVICE

This service helps seniors with heavier duties in the home. Calling the senior center arrangements can be made to have scheduled persons come to the client home to: rake leaves, shovel snow, wash windows, mow lawn, clean attic / garage, weed garden. Contact the senior center for assistance.
