The Hope Herd

Horses For Hope has trained volunteers, certified instructors, and medical staff. Friendly and gentle horses complete the team that provides a safe, educational, and enjoyable experience on the trail or at the barn.

The Hope Herd horses that are selected for these special events are experienced lesson horses. Our horses are special. We choose them for their personality and temperament. We train them to be kind, gentle and willing, which makes them ideal mounts for the beginning rider. We have many horses that provide children with special memories on Chemo Kids Day. Here are two of our special 'Herd':

  • Sweet Chardonnay
"Charley" is a 19-year-old Palomino Quarter Horse mare. She is sweet, and all the kids love her because she looks like Barbie's horse. She carries her riders gently and with a motherly air. Charley has shown in 4H shows in lower Michigan and pranced down Main Street in many parades representing Horses For Hope.

  • Toby's Rusty Boomer
"Boomer" is one of the newest additions to the Horses For Hope herd. He is a 13-year-old red roan gelding that came to us from Montana. He has a dark (dun) stripe from his forelock, down his back and through his tail. He also has red tiger stripes on his withers and lower legs! Boomer is a gentle boy. He has experience as a 4H western pleasure horse because he is so slow. He loves to follow you around the arena and begs for attention and treats.
