Reachforthestars3.jpgWelcome!
to the Kinawa Parent Group website.

5th Grade Meet and Greet for incoming 5th graders and their parents is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, August 30th from 4-6PM. Please check to Kinawa website for updates. Your child's teacher assignment will not be made until 2 weeks before school starts. Expect a letter to mailed home during the last week of vacation.

Our last meeting of the year is on Tuesday, May 22, 2012 at 9:00 in the Library. We will be electing next year's officers and discussing plans for next year including our only fundraiser, KEEP KINAWA MOVING!! We will also discuss the Meet and Greet for incoming 5th Graders as well as the meeting schedule for next year.

We encourage all parents to attend, especially the parents of incoming 5th Graders as much of what we discuss at this meeting will relate to next year's activities.

The following dedicated parents have volunteered to serve as KPG officers during the 2012/2013 school year:

  • June Hicks--President
  • Kris Lee--Co-VP/Volunteer Coordinator
  • Jodi Schrader--Co-VP/Volunteer Coordinator
  • Martha Hentz--Treasurer
  • Liz Goebel--Secretary.

Elections for next year's board will be held during our last meeting of the year, Tuesday, May 22 at 9:00AM.

KEEP KINAWA MOVING--KKM
KKM is a field day type event tentatively scheduled for Tuesday, September 25, 2012. The students rotate through a dozen games and activities, remaining active for 2 hours. KKM is our only fundraiser of the year and requires A LOT of volunteers. In 2011/2012, we raised over $16,000. These funds supported student clubs, family directories, electronic equipment, financial aid, teaching materials, classroom supplies, the library and much more! Many of these activities would have otherwise disappeared with district budget cuts.

Planning for the 2012/2013 fundraiser is underway. Amy Suhrheinrich has volunteered to chair the fundraiser. She is looking for a few good assistants to help plan and organize. She is also in need of 100 parent volunteers the day of the event.

If you are interested in helping with the planning, please contact Amy Suhrheinrich rsuhr@comcast.net. If you are interested in helping on the day of the event, please check back with us in early September when the details will be more solid. We will also be contacting the families by e-mail and a letter sent home with your child.

Volunteer Opportunities

We encourage all parents to volunteer in some capacity at Kinawa. It is a great way to meet other parents and one way to participate in your children’s experience at Kinawa. We are looking for a wide range of assistance and committment levels throughout the year. A list of volunteer opportunities is below and range from being a KPG officer, to chairing a committee, to providing a dish to pass, to donating your time in the library or at Picture Day. For more information on each of these committees, please contact our VP and Volunteer Coordinator, Daviet Knox at dknox614@hotmail.com.
