There were 13 young hunters participating with several others as no-shows due to the cold weather or conflicting schedules. All the hunters present harvested at least one pheasant. Even though the temperatures were in the "teens" and the snow was "knee high to a short giraffe" everyone (parents, dog handlers and hunters) had a good time. There was a good lunch available and Jim Witt helped the young hunters dress their birds. Several of our hunters came a long way to participate. Some of them came from Southwestern Michigan, the thumb area, Port Huron area and Dundee. Everyone said the event was worth the trip. The Youth Hunt was held at the Variety Farms Game Preserve in Hartland, Michigan. The owners are John and Terra Bullock and are very nice people. They also support our fundraising banquet with donations of several (10 bird) hunts. Their facility is open until April 15 and the their email address is vfgp@hotmail.com. For additional information about next year's Youth Hunt contact our Youth Chairman, Chuck Thelen (248) 207-6399.(chuck.thelen@us.bosch.com). Livingston Conservation and Sports Club Youth Event Members, Livingston Conservation and Sports Club will be holding it's annual Youth Day on Saturday, June 6,2009. Last year the event ran from 10:00am until 5:00pm. It is again open to all kids. In the past Howell's "Dicks Sporting Goods" sponsored this event before Dicks closed. The club grounds are located on McClements Rd about 1mile east of Hacker Rd. Last year the youth event included archery, shotgun and small bore rifle shooting with other sporting events. The Brighton Swat Team is was present along with Pheasants Forever and several other organizations. There was free food for the kids. Most everyone had a good time.and we are sure they will again this year. Our PF chapter manned a booth at the event and signed up Ringneck members and passed out PF literature. To help or for more information this year contact Youth Chairman Chuck Thelen(chuck.thelen@us.bosch.com) or (248)207-6399. *****update*****The Youth Day was held on June 6 as planned.
